Feedback from Last Term’s Events and Activities:
Christmas Carol Service
Thank you to all the parents / carers that supported the children with their performance in The
Christmas Carol Service. The Christmas Carol Service was attended by many and Sunflower would like
to say a huge thank you for supporting this performance. The children worked so hard in the
preparation of the service and enjoyed learning the traditional Christmas carols. Many of you have
encouraged and supported the children in learning their lines for the play and the songs for the choir.
The time you spent has been much appreciated and it enabled the children to feel confident in their
performance. Well done to all the children for their efforts in making the performance a great success!
Party Day
The children had a fun and energetic Christmas Party. We had great fun competing in traditional party
games which included Musical Statues and Pass the Parcel. The children competed for Christmas
themed prizes and showed some fantastic dance moves. We enjoyed a Christmas Party picnic in which
the children enjoyed discussing what the Christmas holidays had in store. A good day was had by all.

Homework Help:
It is hoped that the information provided below will help you complete the tasks with your children.
Bronze Task B – Write a New Year’s Resolution
Think about what you would like to achieve in 2014 and write this as a simple statement. Optional
Extension – explain why this is important to you.
Bronze Task D – Make up a Christmas Poem.
Remember a poem does not need to rhyme. It could be an acrostic poem where a key word is written
vertically and each line must start with that letter. Or a well known poem which is adapted using
Christmas words. The optional extension is to draw pictures around the poem to make it look more
decorative.
Silver Task A – Make a calendar for 2014.
You can draw, paint or colour pictures to represent the seasons or a nice family portrait. You can cut
some paper out and write the days of the month and different pieces of paper. Remember to tie some
wool at the top so you can hang it in your room.
Silver Task B – Design and make an Ancient Egyptian artefact.
This can be absolutely anything the Ancient Egyptians would have used. You can make the artefact out
of card, paper, tissue, junk materials or playdough. The artefact could be in the shape of a shield,
sword, pot, etc.
Silver Task E – Complete a Literacy Exercise on I Am Learning.
Children can access this website through FROG Platform at home or in school. Children to choose a
Literacy exercise from the Key Stage 2 section to revise an area they feel they need additional help
with. Once completed ask an adult to sign it.
Gold Task A – Design a Sock Puppet.
This can be Christmas or Ancient Egyptian themed. Children can draw their design in their books and
colour it to create good effects. Optional Extension – Children can make the sock puppet ad bring it
into school.
Gold Task B – Design your own pet rock.
Choose which rock types you are going to use as your pet: igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic. Then
use the features of these rock types to create a personality and a character to match it. For example,
You could create a tough rock that looks angry and strong which would be a metamorphic rock type
called Macho Marble.
Gold Task C – Write a short story using an Ancient Egyptian character.
Children will write a short story using good vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. Children
are to use an Ancient Egyptian character this could include a mummy, pharaoh, Tutankhamun, sphinx
etc.
Gold Task E – Create an Ancient Egyptian Maze.
You can use squared or plain paper for this activity. Create a maze to find some Ancient Egyptian
treasure or to reunite the mummy and the pyramid. You can draw a maze ensuring you have dead ends
to trick the person attempting to complete it. Optional Extension – ask family or friends to complete it.
