Hold that

You have a vision. Maybe you even have an idea how
to make your vision come true. You want to build a new
metro line to improve public transport. Or maybe you
have to cut costs, so you want to reduce energy consumption in your buildings or production.

or let us hold
it for you!
Realising a vision takes time. And most likely, you are too busy.
So while you focus on running your business, let us handle the
challenges that your vision is facing.
We combine engineering, economics and environmental science
to deliver coherent solutions to your challenges. And together,
we can take your business to the next level by reducing your
costs, making it more sustainable, or by bringing the world
closer through smarter infrastructure solutions.

take 360º insights
Important decisions are tough to make. Investments are big,
projects complex and stakeholders multiply, clouding your view.
To help you, we take everything into account before we advise a
solution – from environmental assessment surveys to stakeholder management programmes.
In this way, you have a complete overview before you decide.
And your solution will be linked to the needs of end users and
society to maximize the return on your investment.

THE TRUE ART OF
SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS
A 360° approach creates more value – for you, your stakeholders and society. Take the new Royal Danish Playhouse
in Copenhagen.
To help the playhouse realize its artistic visions, we created a
series of ground-breaking solutions such as using seawater
and heat from the auditorium to cool and heat the building.
The project in brief:
›

›
›
Demand-driven ventilation
Seawater cools the building
Body heat from audience heats the building
Energy consumption is reduced by more than 75 percent.

Restoring New York's historic Pier 16 takes 360˚ surveying.
The piers along the Lower Manhattan waterfront are one
of the most important sites in American history. To ensure
the wooden structures will continue to be enjoyed by
generations to come, COWI went below the surface
to develop a plan for the rehabilitation of the
historic pier.

NOISE-REDUCING HIGHWAYS
Copenhagen’s new highway Ring 3 is
made of noise-reducing asphalt and
locally sourced materials, making it
both people and environmentally
friendly.
Smart climate
On the Shetland Islands, wind power
integrated in an intelligent energy grid
helps reduce CO2 emissions, while
surplus energy produces hydrogen
to fuel the local car park.
CARBON-NEUTRAL LIVING
In the town of Brøset, technology
joins sustainability initiatives to
create positive CO2-neutral urban
environments and healthy living
conditions for everyone.
ENERGY-EFFICIENT FISHING

Making things easy is not that hard. Take innovation. It is
a great way to get ahead, and it is easier than you think.
To us, innovation means creating smarter solutions to save
you time and money. Or a smarter way to obtain the
knowledge you need.
To do that, we ask questions. We mix competencies and
approach your challenge from many angles, and we turn
ideas upside down – all in pursuit of the surprising solution
that will reduce your costs or improve sustainability.

The Universeum in Gothenburg, Sweden, highlights the

Lions Gate Bridge is vital to Vancouver's
economy. To steer the local economy clear of
unnecessary bumps in the road, we changed
the entire suspended structure at night to
keep the traffic moving in the daytime.
In Sweden, motorists can take a

and enjoy nature at the Borås
Sörbo rest area, where stonewalls
and an oak grove interspersed with
walking paths ease the mind.
Air pockets of the exact right size reduce
the amount of air needed to make concrete strong and able to withstand freezing temperatures. They also reduce the
amount of concrete needed to sustain

Taking your
decisions to new

COWI believes in continuous improvement.
Take airports, for example.
2000: Architectural masterpiece
The Arlanda control tower in Stockholm, Sweden, is
a masterpiece in architecture and a landmark in itself.
2003: World’s best middle-sized airport
Hyderabad’s international airport in India has been
named the world’s best middle-sized airport two
years in a row.
2005: Taking tourism to new heights
Muscat’s new international airport is the gateway
to Oman’s future economic growth.
2009: The sustainable airport
Gardermoen Airport in Norway reduces energy
consumption by storing winter snow and using
it to cool the airport.

Preparing the ground for a new metro line
in a metropolis is a complex task of gigantic
proportions that demands multidisciplinary
knowledge. In Copenhagen, the ground is
being prepared for excavating 17 stations for
the new Cityringen line.
Copenhagen-Ringsted is a critical railway line in
Denmark. But population density and industrialisation make it difficult to expand. Instead, a bold
new line is led through the town of Køge. It is
not only simpler and safer. It is also greener and
faster.

The Green Lighthouse building at the University of Copenhagen is
the realization of the vision to create a carbon-neutral building that
uses nature's own resources for cooling and heating, while solar
cells provide power and electricity.
The world of medicine is changing fast. It takes perspective to
prepare for the changes to come and run a hospital smooth and
efficient. At Sct. Olav Hospital in Norway, smart planning integrates
patient care, research and education.
In Abu Dhabi, a new 45 kilometre long
sewer tunnel paves the way for sustainable
urbanisation. To protect the desert environment, the concrete mix is designed
to withstand high levels of chloride in the
ground and ground water.
