Instructions
1. View the Powerpoint 1.1 – Euro coins to introduce the 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and €1 coins.
2. Provide each group with a set of Euro coins.
3. Sort the coins in columns of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c.
4. Count the number of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and 50c coins and colour the matching amount of
circles on Activity Sheet 1.1.

Activity 2 – Going Shopping

• A set of prized items for each group: book, pencil, ruler, marker and paper clip

Instructions
1. Present the pupils with a prized item on the IWB (StarBoard Activity 1.2).
2. Select the coin on the left hand side of the IWB to pay for that item and drop it in the purse.
3. Provide each group with a purse filled with plastic Euro coins.
4. Take out the coins and sort the money in columns of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c and 20c.
5. Give a set of prized items to each group.
6. Take it in turns to choose an item and pay for it at the cashier using the provided coins.
7. Work out Activity Sheet 1.2 by cutting and pasting the item which costs 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c or
50c.

Activity 3 – Finding the total amount of money

1. Provide a purse filled with some Euro coins to each group.
2. Take out the coins and sort them out.
3. Find the total amount of money in each purse.
4. On Activity Sheet 1.3, find the amount of money in each purse. (Use plastic coins to help you
find the total amount)
5. What happens if we add a 1c coin to each purse?

1. View the Powerpoint 1.4 and in the box provided, write the new price when adding 1c to the
price of each object. (Refer to the number grid to find the next number.)
2. As a group, work Activity Sheet 1.4 by increasing the old price by 1c.
3. Check the new prices with the other groups.
