2015 – 2016 School-Parent Compact

Our Mission: It is the mission of KIPP West Atlanta Young Scholars (WAYS) Academy to prepare students for top quality high
schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond by instilling in each student a commitment to scholarship, teamwork,
integrity, and other “WAYS to success.”
KIPP WAYS Academy Charter Academic Goals:
1. The Charter School will perform above the level that would place it the Priority, Focus, or Alert Schools list.
2. Students will meet or exceed all State Performance Targets and all other statewide-accountability requirements as
established by the Department each year for all content areas of the state’s standardized test.
School Goals from School Wide Plan:
1. Literacy: Maintain or increase by one percent (1%) the number of students meeting and exceeding the literacy test scores
on the Georgia Milestones versus the previous year’s CRCT scores.
2. Math: Maintain or Increase by one percent (1%) the number of students meeting and exceeding the math test scores on
the Georgia Milestones versus the previous year’s CRCT scores.
Scholar’s Agreement, I will…
 Read for an additional fifteen (15) minutes per day or one (1) hour per week to improve my literacy skills.
 Use the online math tutorials at least two times per month and provide the results to my parents for review.
 Use Study Island and the Georgia Online Assessment System at home
 Take home and promptly show parent(s)/guardian(s) weekly student communication folder, which contains my weekly
academic grade reports, my paycheck behavior monitoring report, as well as important announcements and updates.
 Take responsibility and call my teacher(s) when I need help.
 Take advantage of the resources, tutorials and all other academic supports put in place for my success.
Parent’s/Guardian’s Agreement, I will…
 Provide scholar with reading materials and a place to read for at least fifteen (15) minutes per day or one (1) hour per
week to improve their literacy skills.
 Review scholar’s online math tutorials at least two times per month.
 Diligently monitor scholar’s grades through weekly grade reports, online access, and conversations with teachers.
 Look for and expect to see scholar’s weekly communication folder, which contains weekly academic grade reports,
scholar’s paycheck behavior monitoring report, as well as important announcements and updates.
 Make sure scholar contacts the teacher(s) when either scholar or I need help.
 Make sure scholar takes advantages of the resources, tutorials and all other academics supports put in place for
scholar’s success.
 Meet with scholar’s teacher(s) in order to receive report cards for the first and third quarters and may also be required
to pick up the second quarter report card if scholar has deficiencies in any academic area.
Teacher/School’s Agreement, we will…
 Provide all scholars with reading materials and resources so they may read an additional fifteen (15) minutes per day or
one (1) hour per week to improve their literacy skills.
 Provide all scholars with free online math materials, resources, and tutorials at least two times per month.
 Insure all scholars’ grades are updated and teacher is available during the designated hours for scholars and parents to
address whatever questions or concerns they have.
 Provide all scholars with weekly student folders, which contain the scholar’s weekly academic grade reports, paycheck
behavior monitoring report, as well as important announcements and updates.
