Fahrenheit 451 Final Project Options Choose one of the following projects to work on individually or in a group (with no more than four members). The project will be worth ______ points and is due on __________________________. Remember to be creative but appropriate! 1. WRITING There are many literary allusions in Fahrenheit 451. Choose five quotes from literature in the book (include the page numbers). Then explain if and how each quote relates to the novel. The quotes and explanations must be typed (double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 2. 6. LLUSTRATION Design a different cover jacket for the book with an original blurb or tagline that would make someone want to buy the book. Design the front and the back cover. 7. ILLUSTRATION Montag, Mildred, and Beatty all seem to have double personalities. Choose one and draw a picture showing the two faces of the character. Add an appropriate quotation from the novel. RESEARCH/WRITING Research the history of fire departments, their equipment, and some famous fires. You might also want to interview a firefighter in your community to find out what services your fire department provides. Type (double spaced, 1214 point, easily read font) a summary of your findings. Include a works cited page if your sources (MLA format). 3. VIDEO Film a staged debate between Faber and Beatty. One student should act as the moderator who will pose questions about society’s problems. The students playing the roles of Faber and Beatty should give solutions they feel the characters would give. Hand in a typed copy (double spaced, 12-14 point, and easily read font) of the questions and answers used in video (script). 4. VIDEO Choose a scene from the novel that is especially important. With a group of students, type a script for the scene and film it. Hand in a typed copy of your script (double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 5. VIDEO Imagine you are a TV reporter interviewing Mildred’s friends after the fire and the murder. Give your on-thescene report. Hand in a typed copy of the script (double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 8. CD SOUNDTRACK *Make your own soundtrack for Fahrenheit 451. Create a playlist of at least 5 songs, and then “burn” a CD (using legal sites like itunes, Zune Marketplace, etc.) in the order they would appear in the book. Create a CD jacket that illustrates the book (in your eyes). This should be in color. Also include the titles, and performers of the songs in the order they appear in the jacket. *Type a list of the song titles, along with the artists, where the song fits into the book (page number required), and explain the action occurring when the song would be playing.) Along with the list, explain your reasoning for choosing your selection. *Select one song to play and explain in front of the class for extra credit. 9. FLASH DRIVE Imagine that you find a flash drive next to the computer of Montag, Clarisse, Mildred, Beatty, or Faber. The drive contains personal documents: letters, music, photos, “To do” lists, data, saved emails, facebook profile info., poems written by the character for his or her eyes alone, etc. Decide on 4 or 5 documents or files, recreate them, invent file names for each and create a fake printout of the drive directory (or table of contents) showing all of the filenames. Print all of these documents and place them together in a packet about the character. *The four or five files you recreate cannot be all photos, or all music. They must be a combination of different files. 10. WRITING Write an original ending for Fahrenheit 451. First give the plot summary, and then supply your own ending as if you were the author (1-2 typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 11. COLLAGE Cut out magazine pictures to make a collage or a poster illustrating the themes of the book. Include a brief response explaining the symbols and pictures you used and why (typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). Your poster must be at least 12 X 18 inches and should include a minimum of 10 pictures or images. 16. WEBSITES Create a list of favorite websites a character in the book would most frequently visit. Include 3-5 sentences (typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font).for each on why your character likes each of the sites. 12. WRITING Exaggerate either characteristics or events and write a tabloid-style news story related to the book. Include illustrations. The story must be typed (1-2 typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 13. COMIC BOOK Draw a comic book complete with bubble-style conversations showing an incident in Fahrenheit 451. 14. RADIO AD Create a radio ad for the book. Type out the script (1214 point, easily read font) and record it using Audacity audio software (or a tape recorder). Be sure to add music (podsafeaudio.com) and sound effects. 15. POSTER Make a “wanted” poster for one of the characters or objects in the book. Include the following: (a) a drawing or cut out picture of the character or object, (b) a physical description, (c) the misdeeds of the character or object, (d) other information about the character/object that might be important, (e) the reward offered for the capture of the character or object. 17. BOARD GAME Create a board game based on events and characters in the book. By playing your game, members of your class should learn what happened in the book. Your game must include the following: a game board, a rule sheet, and clear directions. 18. MOVIE POSTER Design a movie poster for the book. Cast the major characters in the book with real actors and actresses. Include a scene or dialogue from the book in the layout of the poster. Remember, it should be PERSUASIVE if you want people to come see the movie! 19. DICTIONARY Make a dictionary containing 20 or more difficult words from the book. Your dictionary must be typed, listed alphabetically, and include definitions and illustrations (pictures) for ALL of the words. 21. CURRENT EVENTS Gather a collection (at least 10 -20) of current events (from the newspaper, magazine, or the Internet) that reflect incidents that closely parallel those in the novel. Write 2-3 sentences about each article. 22. POEM/SONG Write a poem or song about the story (typed, 12-14 point, easily read font). Length: at least 5 stanzas long. May be video taped, or performed in class for extra credit. 24. T-SHIRT Design and make your own T-shirt with an illustration about the novel. The illustration might be all about a specific character or scene, a movie poster, a most wanted poster, an ad. for the book, a collection of quotes, etc. Create a design using color-fast marking pens, or on the computer with special iron-on printer paper (available at Staples, Walmart, etc.) The T-shirt does not have to be new, can be a variety of sizes (fitted T– to XXX Large….no baby clothes though) and any color, but must be an original design. *Include a brief typed response on a separate sheet of paper explaining the symbols and pictures you used and why (typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font). 20. WRITING In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield describes a good book as one that “when you’re done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” Imagine that Ray Bradbury, the author, is a terrific friend of yours. Write out an imaginary telephone conversation between the two of you in which you discuss the book and other things as well. (1-2 pages typed, double spaced, 12-14 point, easily read font).
