MIDLINE CROSSING Try to pay attention to how your child moves his/her body and which hands he/she uses during activities. You will see that he/she avoids crossing the midline of his/her body. Try the following strategies to help improve this. - - Position objects on his/her left side and encourage him/her to reach them with his/her right hand (vice versa with left hand). Watch for shifting in your child’s body position. If objects are on his/her left side, he/she may turn his/her body towards the left to avoid crossing his/her midline with his/her right hand. Stop this by holding his/her in a face-forward position. Have your child trace the following shape on a giant piece of paper or blackboard. This symbol encourages midline crossing. Make sure he/she does not shift his/her body.
