Nursing Program
COMPLETE THE PREREQUISITE COURSES AT KIRKWOOD TOWARD YOUR BSN
DEGREE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA
Kirkwood’s Arts and Sciences division offers a pre-BSN (Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing) curriculum that
transfers to four-year colleges or universities granting BSN degrees. Kirkwood’s Pre-BSN program was developed
in cooperation with the University of Iowa.
The Applied Science and Technology Division offers a second transfer option for students who completed
Kirkwood’s Associate Degree in Nursing (two-year RN). Contact the University of Iowa College of Nursing for more
information.
KIRKWOOD CURRICULUM
Students are encouraged to take Basic Biological Concepts prior to enrolling in College Biology, Microbiology and
Anatomy and Physiology if they have little or no background in these areas.
The following information outlines the requirements at the University of Iowa and the equivalent courses at
Kirkwood. It is meant to be helpful in planning your programs at Kirkwood. Consult the college early in your
program to avoid any problems.
Students who satisfactorily complete all of the Kirkwood courses listed on the University of Iowa Preliminary
Requirements equivalency chart will satisfy the University of Iowa pre-admission nursing requirements. General
education requirements may be completed at Kirkwood or at the University of Iowa after transfer. The University
of Iowa Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will take three years to complete, once admitted to the College of
Nursing. This period of time is required, regardless of the number of credits a student earned.
THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA NURSING PROGRAM
To apply for admission to the undergraduate program in nursing, each student must be admissible to the University
