Kirkwood Community College and The University of Iowa Pre-Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program COMPLETE THE PREREQUISITE COURSES AT KIRKWOOD TOWARD YOUR BSN DEGREE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Kirkwood’s Arts and Sciences division offers a pre-BSN (Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing) curriculum that transfers to four-year colleges or universities granting BSN degrees. Kirkwood’s Pre-BSN program was developed in cooperation with the University of Iowa. The Applied Science and Technology Division offers a second transfer option for students who completed Kirkwood’s Associate Degree in Nursing (two-year RN). KIRKWOOD CURRICULUM Students are encouraged to take Basic Biological Concepts prior to enrolling in College Biology, Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology if they have little or no background in these areas. The following information outlines the requirements at the University of Iowa and the equivalent courses at Kirkwood. It is meant to be helpful in planning your programs at Kirkwood. Consult the college early in your program to avoid any problems. Students who satisfactorily complete all of the Kirkwood courses listed on the University of Iowa Preliminary Requirements equivalency chart will satisfy the University of Iowa pre-admission nursing requirements. General education requirements may be completed at Kirkwood or at the University of Iowa after transfer. The University of Iowa Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will take three years to complete, once admitted to the College of Nursing. This period of time is required, regardless of the number of credits a student earned. THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA NURSING PROGRAM To apply for admission to the undergraduate program in nursing, each student must be admissible to the University of Iowa and present: 1. Completion of ALL preliminaries (or current enrollment in any remaining preliminaries). Enrollment in the College of Nursing is contingent upon successful completion of all preliminaries completed in an accredited institution of higher education. 2. A minimum grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. 3. Applicants for whom English is not the first language need a minimum TOEFL score of 550, or the computer-based equivalent score of 213. 4. Fulfillment of these requirements does not guarantee admission. From applicants who meet minimum requirements, those who appear to be best qualified shall be admitted.
