Del Mar College Nursing Education ELSEVIER HESI Admission Assessment (A2) Test Applicants are required to take the HESI A2 standardized assessment exam. The HESI A2 test is a timed, computerized test which is usually completed in 3-­‐4 hours. The test must be completed prior to the admission deadline for the semester that admission is requested. Testing Location The HESI exam will be administered at the Del Mar College Testing Center in the Multi Service Center, Room 125 (3013 Ayers Street). Prior to Exam Contact the Health Sciences Learning Lab (361) 698-­‐2863 to register for the exam. A $35 fee is required to take the HESI. The fee must be paid at the Testing Center prior to the date of the exam. Student will need to create an Evolve student account to take the HESI A2 exam prior to scheduled exam date. If you do not have one you can create one at https://evolve.elsevier.com/ Click Login on the top right hand corner. Click “Create an account”. Register as “Student” and enter your information. The Evolve student account login information will be required the day of the exam. HESI Eligibility Student must have completed BIOL 2401, ENGL 1301, and PSYC 2301 and completed or attending BIOL 2402 to be eligible to take HESI A2. Students who test elsewhere will need to contact Evolve at 1-­‐800-­‐950—2278 ext. 6918 or 6947 to request a testing transcript to submit to our office prior to the application deadline HESI Assessment Applicants must earn a minimum score of 75 or higher on the following sections of the HESI A2 test: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary/General Knowledge, Math, and Anatomy/Physiology. HESI A2 scores are considered in the points award ranking process. Scores on the math and anatomy/physiology sections are considered separately. Scores on the Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Vocabulary/General Knowledge are combined and the average score (referred to as the “English” score in the sample ranking table below) is considered for points. The Learning Styles, Personality Profile and Chemistry sections of the HESI A2 are also required but not used in the calculation of admission points. To determine the number of points from the HESI A2 sub-­‐score see below: HESI A2 Sub-­‐scores HESI A2 Points 100 – 95 3 94 – 84 2 83 – 75 1 The following is an example of points awarded for a sample applicant’s HESI A2 scores: HESI A2 Section Score Points Awarded Math 94 2 Anatomy/Physiology 96 3 Grammar 88 Vocabulary/General Knowledge 92 Reading Comprehension 87.23 267.23 ÷ 3 = 89.08 (“English” score) 2 You can determine your own admission points by completing the excel worksheet available on our website www.delmar.edu Other Important HESI A2 Information • Students are eligible to take the HESI A2 only when they have completed ENGL 1301, BIOL 2401 Human Anatomy & Physiology and completed or enrolled in BIOL 2402 Human Anatomy & Physiology. • Test scores for all sections of HESI A2 are valid from September 1 to August 31st of current year. HESI A2 Exam is not administered two weeks prior to the application deadline. • Students can repeat the required sections under 75% only after the first attempt. The sections to be repeated will be taken at the same time. Students may take the HESI A2 a maximum of (4) four attempts between September 1st and August 31st (First time and re-­‐tests). A 30 day period is required in between attempts. Please consider application deadlines when scheduling to take the exam for the first time. • If you do not achieve the minimum scores of 75 you must take time to work on improving the basic academic skills before attempting to take the HESI A2 again. Students who attribute a poor performance on the assessment to a bad day and who rush to take it again without preparation typically have the same result. It takes practice and work to improve scores.
