The Grapes of Wrath Unit—December 2014-January 2015
Students must take notes for this unit in the same format they used on previous units: 1-2 pages for
each day of reading including a well-documented quote and response and bulleted notes taken in
sentence fragments as well as all appropriate Applied Practice passages—the packet notes should
include properly cited quotes and definitions as well as some indications of how answers were
chosen.
01/12-01/16:
 Study for the unit test on Tuesday.
 Review literary terms, vocabulary, packet work, MLA format, etc., for the final.
 Buy a practice book for AP English Language and Composition.
 Do other work as assigned.
01/05-01/09:
 Read and take notes on chapters 27-30—27, 28, 29-30—in the novel.
 Make up any reading quizzes you missed or didn’t pass on the first try so that you are eligible to
do all the essays and the unit test for this unit.
 Study vocabulary for the quiz on Friday.
 Study for the unit test on next Tuesday.
 Come to class on time and write the in-class essay on the block day.
 Review literary terms, vocabulary, packet work, MLA format, etc., for the final.
 Buy a practice book for AP English Language and Composition.
 Do other work as assigned.
12/22/12-01/04/15 (Winter Break):
 Read and take notes on chapters 20-25—20-21 (2 nights), 22, 23-25 (2 nights), 26—in the novel.
 Study vocabulary for the quiz on the Friday after Winter Break.
 Review literary terms, vocabulary, packet work, MLA format, etc., for the final.
 Buy a practice book for AP English Language and Composition.
12/15-12/19:
 Read and take notes on chapters 13-19—13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19—in the novel.
 Study vocabulary for quiz on Tuesday.
 Study new vocabulary for the quiz on the block day.
 Study new vocabulary for the quiz on the Friday after Winter Break.
 Make up any reading quizzes you missed or didn’t pass on the first try so that you are eligible to
do all the essays and the unit test for this unit.
 Turn in your essay in class on Monday and online by 8 p.m. on Monday night.
 Do other work as assigned.
12/08-12/12:
 Read and take notes on chapters 9-12— 9-10, 11-12—in the novel.
 Study vocabulary for the quiz on Monday.
 Study new vocabulary for the quiz on the block day next week.
 Make up any reading quizzes you missed or didn’t pass on the first try so that you are eligible to
do all essays and the unit test for this unit.
 Bring your typed essay draft to class on Tuesday and participate in the peer feedback workshop.
 Revise and proofread your essay to turn in online and in class on next Monday.


12/01-12/05:
 Read and take notes on chapters 1-8—1-4, 5-6, 7-8—in the novel.
 Study vocabulary for quiz on next Monday.
