Study direct

your learning online

Study Direct is the online learning environment at Sussex.

Many of your modules will have a site on Study Direct where you can download resources such as lecture notes and slides and take part in online activities.

Designed by your tutors

Each of your sites is designed by your tutors so you can make the most of your learning at

Sussex.

Online resources

Check your timetable and keep up to date with lecture notes, slides, recordings and other course resources online.

Learning activities

Take part in Forums, Quizzes,

Wikis and other learning activities to help you get the most out of your course.

Logging in

Go to sussex.ac.uk

, and click on the Student internal link at the top right hand side of the page. Click on the Study

Direct tab and login with your IT username and password.

Your profile

When you first login, you might want to make a couple of changes to your profile: click on your name in the top righthand corner, then select edit profile

Navigating around

The breadcrumb bar underneath the site menu tells you where you are. If you’re currently on a site then the second item on the navigation bar will be the site home page. Click it to go to the site home page or click Sites to choose a different module.

Your sites

When you first login, you’ll see the Sites page. Not all modules have sites but you can check with your tutors to see if they’ve set up sites to go with their lectures.

Check your email address

• Check that your email address is correct and that the email address is enabled

This will ensure that updates, including postings on forums to which you have subscribed will be sent to your email.

The forum icon is shown whenever a particular site has a forum. Click the forum name to see the latest posts and to contribute, click Reply or start your own thread with the Add a new discussion topic button.

You can view modules for previous years throughout your time at Sussex just by choosing the year on the Sites page.

Quizzes

Tutors sometimes set quizzes in Study Direct to test understanding of a topic.

When you complete a quiz, make sure you press the Submit all and finish button to send your answers for marking.

You’ll get an email receipt as proof that you completed the quiz if your email address has been activated in your Study

Direct profile (see Your profile ).

While you’re working, you can click on the Save without submitting button to store the answers you’ve entered so far. You can then log out of Study Direct and come back to the quiz later. But make sure you remember to submit your quiz for marking. If you forget, you won’t be recorded as having completed the quiz, even if you saved all the answers.
