Training for Student Pharmacy Technicians
In previous years, student pharmacy technician training has been co-ordinated regionally and
the vast majority of students undertaking the NVQ3 Pharmacy Services registered for the
award through the NVQ Centre at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals Trust. For students
entering their second year of study who have registered with BSUH, these arrangements will
continue and additional support in the form of portfolio clinics will be organised and
delivered by Pat Fray. The dates for these are listed below.
Wednesday 27th October 2004 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
Wednesday 16th February 2005 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
Wednesday 1st June 2005 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
NVQ assessors and verifiers who are supporting these students are also required to attend
the following standardisation meetings
Wednesday 10th November 2004 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
Wednesday 23rd February 2005 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
Wednesday 8th June 2005 – Southlands Hospital, Sussex
From 2004 student pharmacy technician training will become organised on a county as
opposed to regional basis. For the majority of students this will comprise undertaking a BTEC
Pharmaceutical Sciences at a local Further Education College and completion of the NVQ3
Pharmacy Services in the workplace supported by a named student technician trainer. NVQ3
support for students will be co-ordinated through a local NVQ Centre. Support will consist of
an induction day at the beginning of the first year and 3 portfolio clinics throughout each year.
Students are expected to attend these support days as part of their training programme.
