***** Hassle-Free Homework: A Six-Week Plan for Parents and Children to
Take the Pain out of Homework by Faith Clark, Ph.D. and Cecil Clark, Ph.D,
1989, Doubleday. An excellent resource to help identify your child’s learning
style, a description of how the homework brain works and strategies for
addressing each homework subject are all included in this detailed,
comprehensive book. (Reference 1)

***** Discover Your Child’s Learning Style by Mariaemma Willis M.S. and
Victoria Kindle Hodson, M.A., 1999, Prima Publishig. gAnother excellent book
that helps you assess not only your child’s learning style, but their talents,
strengths and interests so you can “rekindle or fuel the self-directed, eager learner
in your child.” Many excellent learning tools/resources are also provided.

* Taming the Homework Monster: How to Make Homework a Positive Learning
Experience for Your Child Ellen Klavan, 1992, Poseidon Press.This book has
helpful ideas for each grade (K-6) on how to reinforce math, reading, science,
social studies and writing skills.
Ending the Homework Wars Marguerite C. Radencich, Ph.D. and Jeanne Shay
Schumm, Ph.D., 1988, Free Spirit Publishing Inc. This book offers help with
specific subjects for parents of 6-13 year olds. It has a variety of excellent forms
to help a child organize their work for book reports, term papers and other
projects.


Seven Steps to Homework Success: A Family Guide to Solving Common
Homework Problems, Sydney S. Zentall, Ph.D., and Sam Goldstein, Ph.D., 1999,
Specialty Press. The authors outline 11 common homework problems and offer
advice on solving them. They also suggest setting up a “Learning Station” and
give details on how to do that.

Homework Without Tears: A Parent’s Guide for Motivating Children to Do
Homework and to Succeed in School, Lee Canter and Lee Hausner, Ph.D., 1987,
Harper and Row. This book has some great ideas on how to make homework fun.
There are also a lot of good checklists, such as a “Proofreading Checklist” for
kids to use to check their written reports. The book is also laid out well for busy
parents to do a quick read.

Thursday, 6-9 p.m. CST for students K-12.
www.ipl.org/youth/ref.html: Internet Public Library has subject collections,
reference materials, search tools and more. Can be helpful for homework
questions and leads on research reports. Can e-mail a librarian for help, but may
take up to three days to get answers. (www.ipl.org/div/askus/ ) (Check with your
local librarian, too.)
www.homeworkspot.com – Information for students elementary through high
school. Has a reference desk, current events, a wide variety of subjects and
science fair ideas.
www.mathforum.com: Service for math students and their teachers. Help finding
the answers to math questions on “Ask Dr. Math.” Students can submit questions,
but can also search for FAQ.
http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com – You can use this website, free of
charge, to make word searches or other word games with your child’s own
spelling list.
www.howstuffworks.com- info on health, weather, technology, science,
electronics and equipment.
http://scholastic.com- has a website for teachers and families by school subject
that has many helpful activities.
www.4kids.com- has science, social studies and math resources.
http://school.discovery.com/homeworkhelp/bjpinchbeck/index.html - BJ has links
to over 700 sites to help with homework.
www.ask.com – Answers to all sorts of questions.
www.infoplease.com- Contains an assortment of searchable almanacs, has a
homework center with six subjects and help with building three skills.
http://kidsclick.org – This is a searchable and comprehensive directory of internet
resources for kids by librarians.
www.nationalgeographic.com/homework - This site has maps, photos and art
along with information on animals, history/culture, geography, science and
nature.
www.factmonster.com – This is an on-line ready reference.
