(F)ARTING FUNNY MONEY Instead of becoming yet another suffering artist and adding my masturbatory misery to the universe overpopulated with starvation of all kind I decided to step up to the plate and become rich by making art and art only. Let’s face it, life is too fucking short to have double identity, double job, double life. If freedom and artistic integrity come with side jobs, I say, fuck that freedom right up its ass. My personal and my artistic integrity or shall I call it simply my integrity because I only have one, is important to me in such way that I will do anything it takes to keep it, cherish it and love it. No compromises no deals no way. I am saying this because there was time when I thought differently and this decision is not made from my ass but from my experience in living life and making art. I will be condemned for saying the following but let’s hear me out anyway: cutting funds for culture is a political move that came with no fucking surprise so I really do not understand why is everybody so shocked and overwhelmed. Another thing, so much money is being given for so many shitty art projects (here I do not talk about individual art projects because most of the money does not go to individuals but to the organizations, that is, nonprof it organizations) that it is really a good thing there will be less money. The system of funding is creating bureaucratic slavery and if getting money means filling in tons of damn papers-I DONT WANT IT! I will make my own money and fill in my own fucking forms! So, let’s talk business. ...making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art. Andy Warhol, Philosophy of Andy Warhol The poorer you are the more money you own and the less freedom you possess. Who wants to be poor and enslaved?! This is not a condition anybody choses by his or hers own free will. I am interested in making self-sufficient, reasonably priced salable art which is critical, profitable and slavery free. Instead of running away from the money and pretend I can just as well live from exhibitions on my own expense, I run towards it with all that I got. And all that I got is art. I am going to close this email by saying one thing- FUCK MONEY WITHOUT ART AND FUCK ART WITHOUT MONEY. Art and money; when I say art and money in the same sentence I am not trying to be critical of such system; on the contrary, there is nothing more beautiful, even profound than being paid for one’s art work-indeed unjustly rare occasion which offers a real material acknowledgement of one’s work, proving that one’s art work is not just a childish hobby and/or a foolish indulgence but a real job one-I can actually live from.
