 SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES Please ask our Concierges or Kids Relations Manager for more information and to make a booking Part 1: Scavenger Hunts What better way to get children acquainted with Paris than with a proper treasure hunt? Particularly since the City of Lights holds more landmarks, monuments, secrets and mysteries, than any other city in the world… Please note our scavenger hunts may be photographed or filmed by a videographer, with a DVD delivered to your room the following day. What a nice way to take home great memories of your children having fun in Paris! Scavenger Hunt in Paris Meet Paul Dubois, a young Parisian boy and the hero of this adventure. The chocolate Eiffel Tower he had lovingly handpicked for his mother has a birthday gift has mysteriously disappeared! Will you be able to help him find it? Visiting Paris landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Montmartre and Opera to name a few, children will have to find clues, solve riddles, be creative and perform amusing tasks to help little Paul locate his missing chocolate Eiffel Tower… Laughter and learning guaranteed – our child-­‐friendly guides are experts at capturing a child’s imagination! Duration: 2 hours ½ to 3 hours Age: From age 6 Scavenger Hunt in the Louvre Museum A ghost haunts the Louvre Museum and tries to steal the Mona Lisa and other masterpieces. Your mission is to check that everything is where it should be… Following our child-­‐friendly guide in the largest museum of the world, children will have to solve riddles, perform amusing tasks and think creatively. Our child-­‐friendly guides manage to combine fun with art education, sharing fun facts and legendary tales about the Louvre masterpieces, from antique statues to the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte. At the end of their adventure, children get a special treasure as a gift: a small pirate chest filled with candies, chocolate coins and other souvenirs of Le Louvre). Younger children (aged 4 to 7) will be invited to discover the story of Opet, a small hippo living in the Nile Valley, and learn Egyptian secrets and legends at his side. Children will also participate actively in the adventure by performing amusing tasks and making simple, Egyptian-­‐inspired handicrafts. Older children (aged 7 to 12) will be invited to join Egyptian Queen Nefertari in a thrilling investigation. Nefertari’s husband, Sakarit, has mysteriously disappeared. Children will have to solve clues and riddles to help find Sakarit, performing amusing and creative tasks along the way. Duration: 2 hours (please note the Museum is closed on Tuesdays) Age: From age 4 Scavenger Hunt in Versailles What better way to get children acquainted with the world-­‐famous Versailles Palace and its magnificent gardens than with a proper treasure hunt? British spies have stolen the treasure that King Louis XVI wanted to offer to General La Fayette to help Washington’s Army fight for the American Revolution. Fortunately, they have left traces of their presence all over the Palace and gardens. We need your help to find the treasure! Duration: 3 hours ½ (please note the Versailles Palace is closed on Mondays) Age: From age 5 Chantilly Castle, Stables and Horse Museum Chantilly is a remarkable castle to the north of Paris. The former residence of the Duc de Condé, it is internationally recognized for its horse-­‐related events and known as the birthplace of both the famed (and perhaps feared) Chantilly whipped cream and lace. The castle has exquisite gardens designed by André Le Nôtre – who also designed the gardens at Versailles Palace – and features a real moat and draw-­‐bridge. It also hosts one of the most elaborate and renowned historical libraries, a large part of which is composed of books saved from the wrath of the French revolution. The tour includes the park, the apartments of the Duc de Condé, the world-­‐famous horse stables and its museum -­‐ the Musée Vivant du Cheval -­‐ which is considered one of most scenic stables in the world. The tour ends appropriately with a horse carriage ride through the park. Duration: 1 day Age: From age 5 Part 2: For the budding Artists Be Monet for a Day A visit to the world-­‐famous Orsay Museum in Saint-­‐Germain-­‐des-­‐Prés will capture children’s imagination and introduce them to Impressionist masterpieces, with a special focus on the work of French painter Claude Monet, the leading light of the Impressionist Movement. After the guided tour, children will meet with a Parisian artist who lives on a houseboat near the Pont Neuf Bridge. The artist will help budding artists create their own Impressionist masterpieces – the perfect creative souvenir to bring back home! Duration: 4 hours (activity not available on Mondays and Wednesdays) Note: this half-­‐day tour can be extended to a full day, with a visit of Monet’s beautiful house and gardens in Giverny, 80 kms west of Paris. Art lovers enjoy wandering around the house where Monet spent half his life and seeing the boat he puttered around in as he painted his iconic water lillies. The Monet Museum and Gardens are open 7/7 from April 1 to November 1 included. Duration: 8 hours (activity not available on Mondays and Wednesdays) Age: From age 6 Discover Marmottan Museum Join us for an artistic adventure back in time… Blanche, the daughter-­‐in-­‐law of famous Impressionist painter Claude Monet, has just missed the train to Giverny, her step-­‐father’s beautiful estate 80kms west of Paris. Come and help her in the Musée Marmottan in Paris, to find a solution to go back to Monet’s house. This visit gives children the opportunity to discover the Impressionist Movement whilst participating in a thrilling Discover Montmartre Where is Gilles the Rabbit? Jumping in Montmartre from one spot to another. Follow him and discover with him the charming village of Montmartre. Children will listen to tales and stories whilst also making handcraft works. Duration: 2 hours Age: From age 4 The Paris Reporter This activity begins with a walking tour of a Paris district escorted by our professional artist/photographer. After the walking tour, children will go to the photographer’s studio located on a houseboat, on the River Seine, to make their own photo album. Camera and equipment will be provided for the activity. Duration: 3 hours (while children are participating in the workshop, parents can relax and have a cup of tea on the deck of the private boat) Age: From age 6 Ballerina for a Day For many little girls, Paris is a romantic and beautiful city. It’s a city of delicate dreams, leading them to imagine a life of fantasy. Is there a more tempting fantasy for a young spirited girl than to step into the dancing shoes of a Paris Ballet ballerina for a day? This fun day will take aspiring ballerinas to a famous dance equipment store in Paris, where they’ll be able to try on different outfits. Once they have chosen their favourite outfit, they will have their make-­‐up done by a make-­‐up artist, and will be photographed by a professional photographer. Later in the day, they will be invited for a private tour of the Opéra Garnier Ballet School, with a special visit to the costume department. The tour will finish with a guided tour to Orsay Museum, to admire Degas’ world-­‐famous ‘Ballet Dancers’. What we have noticed though, as foodies ourselves, is that curiosity about food starts very early on. As a child you discover new tastes, new ingredients, new aromas and build up an elaborate palate. We have prepared the best crash course in Paris gastronomy for budding gourmets. On this gourmet tour, children will discover main gourmet landmarks of Paris visiting bakeries, pastries and chocolate houses… including Pierre Hermé Paris. At the end of the tour, back to the Royal Monceau -­‐ Raffles Paris, they will have a private pastry course and learn how to assemble their own macarons, wearing a Chef’s Hat and an apron. Duration: 4 hours (activity not available on the weekends, due to increased shop traffic and/or Sunday closure) Age: From age 5 Pizza-­making workshop Under the supervision of Chef Roberto Rispoli – the Michelin-­‐star Italian Chef at Le Royal Monceau Raffles Paris – children experience a fun, hands-­‐on cooking class where they get to personalize their own pizza and learn lots of easy, simple tips. At the end of the workshop, children leave with their own pizza, which they can enjoy with their families, at the Bar Long or in the comfort of their own room. Learn how to sing “Pont d’Avignon” and other well-­‐known French songs Discover the Mona Lisa Harbour Retrace Quasimodo’s footsteps Duration: 2 hours Age: From age 3 Pirates of the Seine River Before their very first stay in Paris, not many people actually realize how important a role the River Seine has played in the history of the city. The Seine has shaped most of the city’s contemporary geography, going back to the Roman origins of the city. We have imagined this day of fun, excitement and learning opportunities around water to celebrate the importance of the River. First, children get to have fun at a water park, before proceeding to a special cruise on the River Seine. After a picnic by the Eiffel Tower, they are invited for a special visit to the Paris Aquarium, where they can feed the fish. Duration: 1 day Age: From age 5 Part 5: Other Toys and Games tour Toys and games have always captured children’s attention regardless of their culture, tradition or language. Toys speak to little ones beyond words and trigger laughter as well as other emotions that win them over instantly. With this tour, we give children them a taste of our favourite toy stores in Paris, with visits to vintage toy stores, a fun video games arcade and the Paris Dolls Museum. In the full-­‐day version of the tour, children also visit the spectacular “Musée des Arts Forains”, with its amazing collection of antique carrousels, as well as the Louvre Museum, for a fun introduction to antique toys. Last but not least, the tour includes a ice-­‐cream pit stop at world-­‐famous ice-­‐cream parlour Berthillon on Ile Saint-­‐Louis. Duration: half-­‐day or full day Age: From age 5 Paris on the wild side tour If there was one universal truth about children, it would be without a doubt that they love animals. Whether they might find them scary, strange or adorable; it will not take a lot of convincing to embark them on this specific journey we have designed around famous Paris landmarks for the animal lover in each of them. Duration: 3 hours or full day Age: From age 5 Shopping for Kids – Clothing, or Decoration & Design Follow our personal shopper through a selection of the finest Parisian boutiques for children’s clothing, fashion accessories, design and furniture. The perfect opportunity to dress your child with true French flair, whilst strolling around some of the most charming Parisian districts such as Le Marais or Saint-­‐Germain-­‐des-­‐Prés.
