archeological dig, geocaching, and journaling.

Self-Paced Online Training Opportunity
The Department of Information Technology has an agreement with Microsoft to provide
self-paced online training for both licensed and classified employees. These self-paced
online classes offer individuals the opportunity for additional training where they can work at
their own pace and at a time that is convenient for them.
Important Notes:
 Participants must have basic computer skills and experience with both Microsoft
Office and the Internet before taking a self-paced online Microsoft course. Since
these courses are self-paced, participants will not receive support from the
facilitator.
 Office 2010 is essential in order to complete the lab portion of these courses.
Microsoft Information Technology Academy online courses are not designed for use
on Mac computers.
 Participants must have Windows Live accounts to participate in the Microsoft
Information Technology Academy. After receiving an approved Staff Development
registration, participants may create Windows Live accounts at https://login.live.com,
if needed.
 Participants may register for only one Microsoft Information Technology
Academy online course advertised in this booklet during a semester.
 Each participant will be provided via email a manual, a lab checklist, and directions
for how to enroll in the course and use the training site. First-time participants must
email the facilitator their Windows Live email address information.
 The facilitator will enter the access code for the course, and Microsoft will email an
activation link as well as instructions to participants. Participants must begin work
on Microsoft Information Technology Academy online components by Monday,
June 23, 2014, or risk being dropped from the course for inactivity.
 Training is free to employees registering through the Department of Staff
Development. Anyone enrolling in Microsoft’s online training without first
obtaining an access code from the school division will be charged by Microsoft

Online professional development courses for educators may be accessed through 360 Education

Through Teacher-to-Teacher, educators now have the opportunity to participate in a variety of online

T-TAC
The Virginia Department of Education’s Training and Technical Assistance Centers (T-TAC) provide
training designed to improve educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and
youth with disabilities (birth-22 years). For information on training events offered by a regional

and Mary (www.wm.edu/TTAC/). You may also want to visit www.ttaconline.org where you will find
online “webshops” for teachers as well as specific suggestions for differentiated instruction when you

Eligibility
 Any individual who is approved for a college-credit course and withdraws less than a
week prior to the first class session or after the course begins is ineligible to
participate in a college-credit course offered through The Staff Developer for
at least three (3) semesters.
 Any individual who has an outstanding balance with Chesapeake Public Schools is
ineligible to participate in courses advertised in The Staff Developer.
 Any individual who has an outstanding balance or an Incomplete with a partnering
college/university is not eligible to register for college-credit classes advertised in this
booklet.
 Participants must have a four-year undergraduate degree to receive graduate credit.
 Refer to individual course descriptions for prerequisites and important course information.
Attendance
 Participants are expected to attend all class sessions and to complete all course
requirements.
 Individuals registering with the college/university and then not attending the scheduled
class sessions will be responsible for tuition.
 Call Staff Development immediately if you need to cancel your registration (see first

Tuition
 College-credit courses are system-sponsored and free for full-time CPS employees.
Tuition assistance in the form of reimbursement may be available for approved courses
offered through ASCD, PDI, and SDE.
 In order for the school division to pay tuition or provide tuition assistance in the form
of reimbursement, participants must be full-time CPS employees, register as directed,
provide evidence of successful completion (e.g., grade report, certificate of completion),
and provide proof of payment to the Department of Staff Development. See below for

Evidence of Successful Completion
 In order for the school division to pay tuition or provide tuition assistance in the form of
reimbursement, participants must provide evidence of successful completion (e.g.,

“C” or better.
 For a Pass/Fail course, participants must successfully complete the course with
