Enrolment and Registration – Frequently Asked Questions
Helpful Enrolment Tips
 You should be available for classes Monday to Friday.
 Do not schedule more than two classes on the same day
 Some courses have both a lecture and tutorial/lab. Do not forget to include both
when mapping out your timetable.
 You should be careful to ensure that your selected courses do not conflict (e.g.
do not enrol yourself to be in two places at the same time).
 Please note that midterms are regularly scheduled during class time. If your
schedule has two or more classes on the same day, you may have two or more
midterms on the same day.
 Open up two browsers on your desktop so that you can switch between the York
Registration Enrolment Module and the Course Offerings website.
1. I am having trouble setting up my Passport York Account. Who can I contact for assistance?
If you are receiving errors setting up your Passport York, you will need to contact
York’s IT support. You may contact them by phone at: (416) 736-5800. Be ready to provide
them with your York student number. Your Passport York Account can also be reset by
sending an e-mail to accounts@yorku.ca with the following details: your student number,
your full name, your date of birth, your home mailing address, and postal code listed on
your school record.
2. In my timetable, there are days where I have back-to-back classes. For example, one class ends at 2:30pm and the other one
starts at 2:30pm. Will I arrive to my class on time or should I restructure my timetable?
Yes, you can have back-to-back classes. While both classes seem to end and start at the
same time, your instructor normally dismisses you at least 10 minutes before the end of
class to allow time to get to your next class. It is recommended, however, that you do
not schedule two three-hour classes immediately after one another. We recommend that you
plan breaks in between your classes.
3. For MGMT 1000, the tutorials are all at the same time. How do I know which one I registered for?
Although each tutorial is at the same time, each tutorial is assigned a different
catalogue number and different room number. Check your timetable carefully in order to
determine which classroom your tutorial will be held in.
4. Do I need to pay a deposit to hold my seat in my courses? How much? What is the deadline?
Yes, you are required to pay a registration deposit at the beginning of the Fall/Winter
and Summer session. The fee is $300, and it is not an additional charge on top of your
tuition. For more information, please read the Registration Deposit section in this
guide on page 17.
5. How many hours per week should I be attending classes?
Each class is approximately 3 hours per week, for a total of 180 minutes. Some classes
(e.g: language courses) may operate for 4 hours per week, for a total of 240 minutes.
Other classes (e.g: SB/ACTG 2010 3.00) may have an additional component such as a lab
for an additional 90 minutes.
6. Can I take my non-business elective course or globally-focused course in the Summer term?
Yes, you can postpone your non-business elective or globally-focused course to the
Summer 2014 session provided that you are enrolled in a minimum of 24.00 credit hours
(12.00 credit hours per term) during the Fall/Winter session.
7. I did AP or IB courses in Grade 12. Do I need to enrol for a non-business elective?
If you completed AP or IB courses prior to starting university, you may be eligible for
transfer credits giving you the option of not taking a non-business elective in your
17
first year. For more information on how to apply for transfer credit, please visit
http://www.schulich.yorku.ca/bba and click on ‘Admission Information‛. Transfer credit
application instructions can be found at the bottom of the page.
8. I tried to add my non-business elective or globally-focused course and the system told me to contact the department. Who do I
contact?
If you receive this error message, you will need to contact the department that offers
this course. To find the contact information for different York departments you can use
the York Directory available at: http://mocha.yorku.ca/atlas/servlet/atlas
9. Can I take one of my core courses during the Summer term?
Unfortunately Schulich does not offer any courses during the Summer term. All core
courses must be completed in the Fall or Winter session, as prescribed by the curriculum
chart.
10. Do I have to take globally-focused courses in Year 1 (iBBA only)
It is recommended that iBBA students complete at least 6.00 credit hours of globallyfocused study by the end of Year 2. A total of 12.00 credit hours of globally-focused
courses will need to be completed before graduation.
11. There is no catalogue number beside the lecture. It only gives me a catalogue number for the tutorial. What should I do?
When you enrol into a tutorial or lab, you are automatically enrolled into the lecture.
You must attend both the lecture and tutorial/lab.
12. When do classes start?
Classes begin on September 8, 2014. For a list of important dates, please visit
http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/dates/fw14.htm
