Each exam will cover the material since the previous exam. Exams will have 55 multiple choice questions – 25 from lectures, 25 from the text, and 5 extra credit questions from the outside reading for that section. Failure to show up for an exam or provide an acceptable excuse in advance counts as having taken the exam. An OPTIONAL comprehensive final exam can be taken to replace one of the first three exam grades. You must notify the instructor of your intention to take the optional final no later than the last regular class meeting. The optional final also will have 55 multiple choice questions, with 5 extra credit questions based on information presented in class. The material covered during class makes up a significant portion of the information needed to be successful. If you miss class, get notes from someone. If after going over the notes, you still have questions, I will be happy to try to answer any questions. Although attendance is not a requirement, a poor record of attendance usually leads to a lower level of performance. Course Objectives: Students will be exposed to the significant theories and models in the major areas of social psychology. The emphasis is placed on understanding the logic of these global theories and models, and on developing an appreciation for their application to diverse situations. You will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of these processes, and to apply these processes to new situations. In addition, the themes that are common to the theories and models will be highlighted to identify the consistent elements that form the foundation of social psychological processes across many areas of application. Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to avoid any behaviors that could be disruptive or distracting to other students or the instructor. Students should arrive before the class starts and remain in the room until it ends. Cell phones should be turned off and put away during class. All members of the class are expected to treat others with respect. While we may have differing views, we should be tolerant and respectful of those differences. Students are expected to be familiar with the UNC Charlotte Code of Student Academic Integrity (www.legal.uncc.edu/policies/ps-105.html). Violations of the Code will not be tolerated. Questions about potential violations or questions concerning the application of the Code in this course should be raised in advance. Please pay special attention to the sections on Plagiarism, Abuse of Academic Materials, and Cheating. A listing of University policies and expectations is available at the course web site and should be read no later than the second class meeting.
