Assistant / Associate Professor in Cognitive Science

The Departments of Computer Science and Psychology at the University of North Carolina
at Charlotte (http://cs.uncc.edu/) are seeking candidates in the enabling areas of Data Science,
for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The Departments seek
applicants
with
specialization
in
cognitive
science
with
research
interests
in computational modeling of the influence of cognitive and affective processes as they relate to
health, education, robotics, etc.
Candidates must hold PhD degree in Computer
Science, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field. A PhD in Psychology or Neuroscience
will be considered if the individual has a strong computational background. We expect
excellence in research and a commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student population
at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as a commitment to participate and further
develop interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in Cognitive Science (a
collaboration between Psychology and Computer Science departments). Experience with
industry partnerships is expected for mid-career appointments and will be considered a plus for
junior appointees. The candidate will have some joint teaching and research responsibilities in
the Psychology Department, which is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
UNC Charlotte is North Carolina's urban research university. Located in the state's largest
metropolitan area, it is among the fastest growing universities in the UNC System and
nationwide. UNC Charlotte has identified Data Science and Business Analytics (dsi.uncc.edu)
as the major emphasis area for education, research and industry collaboration, intended to
broaden and deepen North Carolina's analytics talent and stimulate strategic innovation. The
Department of Computer Science is experiencing significant growth in enrollment and externally
funded research. It is currently the academic home for over 1,400 students pursuing BA, BS,
MS, and PhD degrees. Cognitive science programs (http://cognisci.uncc.edu) are
interdisciplinary and housed within the Department of Psychology, which has one of the most
popular undergraduate majors on campus; offers M.A. degrees and is closely associated with
the graduate certificate program in cognitive science and Ph.D. degrees in Health Psychology
and Organizational Science.
Anticipated start is Fall 2016, with application review initiating on January 15, 2016. Applications
