KICKAPOO TARDY POLICY Definition of a tardy: All students are expected to be in the classroom when the bell rings. A student is tardy to class if the student is not in the classroom at the conclusion of the tardy bell. The tardy policy for this class is the same as the school-wide policy. This policy will be strictly enforced. Classroom Management and Order These are the rules for this class that will be followed in order to provide a clean and safe atmosphere for all who use it. 1) No food or drink in any of the rooms in the broadcast suite! 2) All passes from this class will be written in planners or on green passes only. There should be no reason to ask for a pass for the restroom from this class! If a student has an emergency, a pass will be written and the student will be asked to make up time missed. 3) Disruptive and untrustworthy behavior will not be tolerated! 4) Appropriate door must be used during class. 5) Students are to be in class when class is in session. Students without ID’S at the beginning of class will lose all privileges that day and temporaries will be issued. 7) Most computers in the ChiefTV Studio will not have Internet access and are to only be used for academic endeavors. No games or social networking at any time. SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS POLICY FOR ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICES The possession of laser pointers and other unsafe electronic items are prohibited in the school building. All other electronic devices, such as, but not limited to, cell phones, pagers, PDA's, head phones, IPODs/MP3 players may be in the student's possession as long as they are not disruptive of the educational process or in violation of site use procedures. The school district will not be responsible for lost or stolen items." Specific rules regarding cellular phones are: If a parent has a need to reach a student during the school day, he or she should call the office and we will make every attempt to deliver the message. If parents have a need to call on a student’s cell phone to leave a message during the day they are free to do so. However, students cannot check for messages during class time. If a student is in the hallway or in class and remembers that the cell phone is turned on, the student should approach the teacher and ask permission from the teacher to turn it off. Providing the student has followed the appropriate procedure, the teacher should allow the student to turn off the phone without penalty. If a student forgets to turn off a cell phone and it rings or vibrates during class, the student should ask the teacher’s permission to turn it off. The student may also be subject to the teacher’s classroom discipline procedures. Writing Policy – Kickapoo High School Mr. Loudis and KHS expect you to use complete sentences, proper grammar, and correct spelling in all written performance. TEACHER’S COMPUTERS/OFFICE Area Students will NOT use the teacher’s computers for any reason. They should not ask for permission or bring media to be printed on the teacher’s computer. Student computers are to be used with permission only and abuse of this will mean removal from class with a non-passing grade. The Big Broadcast Journalism Rules: 1) YOU ARE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE ($) FOR THE EQUIPMENT YOU USE. If you or your group uses a piece of equipment that is owned by this class and it is returned broken or inoperable, you and your group will be responsible for the replacement of the equipment. Due to extreme length of repair time, only replacement will be accepted. Many times this equipment breakage is covered by the student’s homeowners insurance policy, so it would be to your benefit to have parents check on this coverage. Grades and records will be withheld till replacement is made. 2) USE OF IN-APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE/BEHAVIOR/CONTENT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THE AIR. Failure to follow this rule will result in immediate removal from class with a “non-passing” grade. Accidents and mistakes will not be an excuse. Media personnel must be aware of what goes on the air at all times. If an infraction occurs while a group is on the air, the entire group can be removed from this class. There are NO exceptions to this rule! Broadcast careers can and have be ruined with one “bad take”. Present professionalism every time. 3) YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR APPEARANCE WHILE ON CAMERA. Along with the dress code set forth by the R-12 School District, your “on camera” appearance is governed by the rules of good reporting. These rules will be discussed in class and will be followed thereafter. No imprinted clothing will be allowed in front of the camera. Torn or ripped clothing, visible piercings (other than ears), visible body art and inappropriate jewelry are forbidden on the air. This rule will be in place for the entire crew who are on assignment. Students should receive ample notice of taping dates. 4) EVERY Video Gets Shown, Everything GOES TO “CONTEST” – All productions must be free of copy written materials, as all will most likely be sent to competitions. No iPod music, no YouTube videos, no commercial media can be used without written permission from the creator/owner. Headphones and Flash Drives – Please bring your own each class period for superior editing and file transfer at the computer editing workstation. The students will have passes signed by the teacher. Great trust is given to these students and high maturity is crucial. By signing below, guardians indicate that they are aware of and accept this method of supervision when deemed necessary by the instructor and agree with real world educational experiences.
