Free Family-to-Family Mental Illness Education Program
Sandy Bauer & Judy Gilow
Family to Family is proven to be valuable to families and friends of individuals with
serious mental illness. You will gain a greater understanding of mental illness, cope
much better, worry less and feel newly empowered by attending this course. Family
members describe the impact of taking this course as life changing! Up to date
information about symptoms, medications, side effects and research on illnesses of the

Asperger's Syndrome
Dr. Susan Jenkins, M.D.
Dr. Jenkins has more than 23 years' experience in working with children, adolescents,
and adults with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders. She will review
the latest research on Asperger’s Disorder and the way it impacts people from early
childhood to adult years. Dr. Jenkins is the Medical Director, Consulting Psychiatrist,
and owner and CEO of Bluestem Center for Children and Family Development in
Rochester, Minnesota. Directions: Enter 8th & Winona Street doors, walk straight down

Bipolar/Major Depression Disorders
Kay King – NAMI Presenter
Kay King from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) MN, will outline the proven
symptoms, potential risk factors and warning signs of bipolar and depression disorders in
older adults and adults. Discussion will include suicide and co-occurring disorders. The
results of the impact that mental illness has on the person, their families and our
communities is significant. Kay will also talk about available treatments and resources
for families and for those living with the illness. Directions: Enter 8th and Winona Street
doors, go straight down the hall, turn right into Pasteur Hall and follow the signs.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Involving Children and Adolescents
Jo Hittner, Ph.D., L.P.
Oftentimes youth with ODD will have other issues that accompany the disorder. ADD is
one of them. The combination of ODD and ADD presents many challenges to parents
and teachers. Dr. Hittner will discuss how these disorders interact and what techniques
can be used to help the youth gain control of their behaviors. Directions: Enter 8th and

Mental Illness: Family Support Group

Do you have a loved one living with a mental illness? If so, we provide a place for you
that offers information, respect, understanding and hope. Meetings are the second
Monday of the month from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Winona Health - Parkview Conference
Room. No fee, just walk in and join us.
DIRECTIONS: Enter the hospital's main door, turn right, at the hallway take another
right. It's the second door on the left. (Next to the snack room). For more information

NAMI Connection: A Mental Illness Support Group
Judy McCormick & Richard Iverson
Our self-help group for people recovering from mental illness is a place to find
acceptance, support and friendship. It meets every Monday evening. For information call

Newell (507) 494-0905. This group meets at the PSN Building. Cosponsored by
National Alliance on Mental Illness-MN, Winona Affiliate and Project COMPASS.

Peer Support Network: Drop in Center
If you're living with a mental illness please just drop in and join us. This is a place to
relax, have fun and meet new friends. Activities include playing cards, WII games,
playing pool, social groups, T.V., an exercise room, wellness events and arts and crafts.
