CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
AERONAUTICS CLUB
Advisor: Anthony Mark, B133
The club explores the artistry and dynamics of flight by building, and flying all sorts of aircraft - rockets (some
with video cameras built in), radio controlled airplanes, helicopters, etc. Prior to flying airplanes, members
practice how to use a flight transmitter (controls) using flight simulator software on computers.
ART CLUB
Advisor: Jared Jaffe, F108
Explores areas of interests in depth, participation in group art projects and provides service to the school.
BIG BROTHERS AND BIG SISTERS CLUB
Advisor: Shawn Daly, A105
Big Brothers Big Sisters 9th/12th match is a school based Mentoring Program at Moorestown High School. It is
run in collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties. In this
program, a freshman is “matched” with an upperclassman volunteer Big Brother or Big Sister. Bigs will meet
as a group once a month in the IT to discuss experiences, issues, or concerns. All high school Bigs and Littles
matches will meet once a month for a group activity. In addition, Bigs and Littles will meet independently
throughout the school year.
BOOK CLUB
Anne Poole, Library
The purpose of the MHS Book Club is to provide a place for students to get together and discuss books.
Members vote and select a book for the group to read, and meet to share conversations, insights, opinions,
and snacks. The Book Club also sponsors a Book Drive to collect gently used books to donate to Camden
County Family Services. All are welcome to join.
CHESS CLUB
Advisor: Kevin Stevens, B109
The goal of the Chess Club is to create a social environment where students can come together and share
their love for chess. Club members organize both a “Welcome Back” and an “End of the Year” chess
tournament during the school year. Students challenge one another to weekly games and set up one on one
chess tutors if a new student arrives expressing the interest to learn how to play.
COOKING CLUB
Advisor: Barbara Amon, E106/G107
The Cooking Club offers an opportunity for freshman and upper classmen to take the Family and Consumer
Sciences cooking classes due to limited space or schedule constraints. In the cooking club the students have
an opportunity to prepare a variety of seasonal foods, ranging from muffins, cookies, snack foods and
beverages. (Students are required to supply the food they have chosen for their recipe.) The club participates
in the Moorestown Historical Society Gingerbread Contest and we taken a food related field trip to a local
restaurant each year.
DANCE SQUAD (activity/not club)
Advisor: Kim Ludlow, UES
Performs choreographed routines at football games, pep rallies and competitions. Their purpose is to build
school spirit, while imparting esteem-affirming social and leadership skills on its members.
DEBATE TEAM
Advisor: Daniel Belton, A258
There are both Varsity and J.V. levels of the Debate team at Moorestown High School. Each level prepares
cases and arguments for competition in the South Jersey Debate League which holds weekly competitions at
Cherokee High School. This team competes during the Winter Sports Season and students may participate in
an additional Winter Sport.
ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB
Advisor: Richard Wilczewski, A229
Allows students interested in environmental issues to explore various problems locally and globally. Trips to
wildlife preserves, etc. are often sponsored. Active involvement in solving ecological problems is fostered.
FILM CLUB
Advisor: Dr. Fred Bjornstad, A207
The Film Club meets to screen and analyze famous, foreign, and obscure films. The members also
collaborate to develop screenplays and shoot their own films.
FRENCH CLUB (LE CERCLE FRANCAIS)
Advisor: Susan Shourds, A150
Provides opportunities for the French student to use the language and to have related cultural experiences.
FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA/PHI BETA LAMDA
Advisor: Rosalind Chadwick, A126
Enables students interested in business and/or business related fields to develop career supportive
competencies and to promote civic and personal responsibilities.
FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA
Advisor: Debra Nelson, A140
The purpose of the Future Teachers of America (FTA) club is to help students explore teaching as a career
option, provide a realistic understanding of teaching, and encourage seriously thought about the teaching
profession. The FTA strives to provide members with experiences to develop the qualities and aptitudes basic
to successful teaching. The FTA meets on Wednesday afternoons in A-140.
HONOR AND SERVICE SOCIETY
Advisor: Dana Church Williams, B107
Stimulate intellectual pursuits beyond the curriculum, provide for intense intellectual discourse, and involve the
high achieving students in voluntary service opportunities within school and community. Students must meet
the following requirements for membership:
1. Must be a junior or senior
2. Must have an unweighted GPA of 3.7 or a weighted GPA of 4.3
3. Must have documentation of significant service contributions made to the school and community
HORTICULTURE CLUB
Advisor: Donna Harvey, A123
If you enjoy gardening and landscaping and would like to learn more about nature and the environment, join
the Horticulture Club and raise your awareness and appreciation of nature. Native New Jersey plants,
wildflowers, floral designs, butterfly gardens, creating backyard wildlife habitats, and environmental
responsibility are some the topics we will cover.
INTERACT CLUB
Advisors: Lewis Lazarow, A246 and Julie Colby, D103, Eileen Fitzpatrick D105; Timothy Knight, A141
Provides opportunities for students interested in working to help others who are in need. The Interact
organization works in cooperation with the Moorestown Rotary Club.
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS CLUB
Advisor: Dr. Fred Bjornstad, A207
Focused on broadening students’ knowledge of international community. The main focus is Model United
Nations, a simulation of the real United Nations in which students represent different countries and discuss
controversial international issues. Model UN gives students a chance to hone their skills in diplomacy,
negotiation, and cooperation, as well as widening their perspective beyond the immediate area in which they
live. The club participates in several Model United Nations conferences at local high schools throughout the
year and periodically attends larger, overnight conferences at universities such as Rutgers and Johns Hopkins.
The IAC also hosts its own conference, Moorestown Model United Nations, each January. In addition to
Model UN, the IAC coordinates discussion groups and guest speakers on international issues.
ITALIAN CLUB
Advisor: Cynthia Allen, A142
The Italian Club students learn Italian, both spoken and written, and learn about Italian culture (food, places,
geography, etc.).
LATIN CLUB
Advisor: Cynthia Allen, A142
Exposes students to the Roman civilization and provides social contacts with others interested in Latin.
Participants must have successfully completed Latin 1.\
LIVE LONG CLUB
Advisor: Albert Borris, Kathleen Lipinski, Dorie Kozuck
Supports local crisis intervention programs with publicity and fundraising. Recruits teens to work for Contact
Teenline and holds education and awareness events for teens.
MATH CLUB
Advisor: Teo Paoletti
The Math Club competes in two different competitions annually. Burlington County Math League competitions
are held 5 times per school year, from October - March, and travels around to various high schools in
Burlington County. There are 13 schools that participate and the location rotates among the participating
schools. We also participate in New Jersey Math League competitions which are held at MHS six times per
school year. The students have 30 minutes to answer six questions and our team school is compared to
participating schools in Burlington County and the entire state of New Jersey. Top schools and highest scorers
are recognized in each competition
MOCK TRIAL
Advisor: Daniel Belton, A258
Mock-Trial is a Debate oriented club that participates annually in the Vincent Aprrussezze New Jersey MockTrial Competition. Students will assume to rolls of lawyers, witnesses and jurors and prepare and argue the
given case in the Burlington County Mock Trial and N.J. State Mock-Trial Competition.
MODEL CONGRESS
Advisor: Daniel Belton
Model Congress is a student-funded club lead through the High School’s Debate program. Students choose to
participate in four annual Model Congresses at Yale University, Harvard University, The University of
Pennsylvania and in Washington D.C. Students write legislation and compete for Speaking-Awards against
students from all over the country.
MULTICULTURAL CLUB
Advisor: Melanie Lomas, A205
Fosters an understanding of the African-American history as well as other cultural groups while providing
students with an opportunity for social interaction and contribution to both school and community.

Responsible for all phases of the publication of the annual yearbook
NUTSHELL LITERARY
Advisor: Paige Morgan, A250
Creates a student magazine of literary and art compositions.
PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY
Advisor: Dr. Fred Bjornstad, A207
The Philosophy Club is a student-run organization whose members informally discuss and debate ideas and
beliefs. It is not only concerned with various branches of philosophy, such as ethics or epistemology, but also
the history of ideas.
PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
Advisor: Robert Waas, E110
Provides opportunities for students to gain skills in using photographic equipment. The club takes pictures for
the yearbook, school organizations and other functions throughout the school and community.
QUIZ BOWL TEAM
Advisor: John Barton, A252
Competing teams of students who respond to questions on subjects such as biology, math, literature, art,
chemistry, pop culture, etc. Tournaments are held throughout the year, and practice involves competitions
between Moorestown students.
ROBITICS CLUB
Advisor: Edward Wright, G114
Offers a fun variety of math, engineering and science technology. Students have opportunities to enter
Robotics competitions.
SCIENCE FAIR CLUB
Advisor: Sean Watson, B116
The Science Fair Club is dedicated to furthering students’ knowledge of science and experimentation.
Students may work in teams or on their own on scientific projects which will be showcased at the Coriell
Science Fair in March. Students will learn the importance of the scientific method in a fun, hands-on way.
SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING CLUB
Advisor: Kathie Alpert
Our mission is to provide an inspiring learning environment that fosters growth and appreciation of Math,
Science, Technology, and Engineering. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere for mentoring and learning
opportunities that are not available in the regular classroom. We promote new science research ideas, and
engineering ideas with help from mentors. We also arrange seminars and speakers for students in various
areas of Science and Engineering
SPANISH CLUB
Advisor: Lisa Trapani, A215
Affords a variety of opportunities for conversational Spanish and introduces students to the way of life of the
Spanish speaking people.
STOCK MARKET CLUB
Advisor: Timothy O’Reilly
The Stock Market Club participates in The NJCEE Stock Market Challenge annually. In addition to this
simulation, the club discusses various pros and cons of investing strategies and keeps abreast of investing
current events.
STUDENT ASSOCIATION
Advisor: Linda Dickason, A210
Coordinates co-curricular activities with the administration. Officers in individual classes may not serve as an
officer in Student Association, but may participate as a member.
STUDENT ATHLETIC ADVISORY CLUB
Advisor: George Snedden, A254
The Student Athlete Advisory Council is made up of student athletes assembled to provide insight into the
student athlete experience at Moorestown High School. The MHS SAAC is comprised of both female and male
student athletes charged with the responsibility of assisting the Director of Athletics and the Board of Education
to better understand the complexities and pressures which the MHS athlete experiences. Student Athlete
Advisory Council members are chosen by their respective coaches to represent their sport on the council.
Members of the council represent the voice of the student-athletes in the MHS governance structure.
STUDENTS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
Advisor: Perri Geller Clark, A228
The Students for Human Rights club is devoted to raising the consciousness of the school community to
human rights abuses and violations in the world. This includes women's rights, gay rights, and general human
rights. The club has focused on the genocide in Darfur for the past couple of years. We try to educate the
school through films, presentations, and discussions as well as to raise money for relief efforts.
STUDENT LIBRARY ADVISORY COUNCIL
Advisor: Anne Poole, Library
Student Library Advisory Council is a group of students from all grades and backgrounds who share a love of
reading. The group is dedicated to building student interest in library programs by helping to select new titles
and designing programs such as "Teen Reading Week". Anyone who wants to get involved in making the
library a more welcoming place is encouraged to join.
STUDENTS UNITED FOR DRIVING SOBER (S.U.D.S)
Advisor: Rosalyn Ericson, B113
Dedicated to fostering alternative activities to drug and alcohol abuse and focuses upon “not driving under the
influence.”
URBAN CHALLENGE CLUB
Advisor: Julie Colby, D103, Kathleen Walker, A227
The Urban Challenge Club is a community service organization that focuses on Camden. We initiate food and
clothing drives periodically throughout the year. We also sponsor trips to various soup kitchens and shelters in
Camden where our Moorestown students get a chance to interact with members of the Camden community.
VOICE (THE)

Engages in all phases of the publication of the school newspaper. Students interested in creative reporting of
school news are encourages to be involved in “The Voice.”
