TASTY TREATS WITH ROCKIN’ KID BEATS!

Kids of All Ages Can Cook & Craft at the Amica Insurance Kids Avenue at Taste of Atlanta

ATLANTA – The 8 th annual Taste of Atlanta festival will welcome young ones to a newly expanded Amica Insurance Kids

Avenue on October 10 th and October 11 th . This is the second year that Amica Mutual Insurance Company, one of the oldest mutual insurers of automobiles will sponsor this special part of the festival that is designed for kids of all ages. Adults attending the festival can bring their children to enjoy delicious bites, fantastically-fun and complimentary craft activities and live cooking demonstrations all weekend long.

“We’re thrilled to sponsor the Amica Insurance Kid’s Avenue for the second year in a row,” said Brian Norton, branch manager of Amica’s Atlanta Regional Office. “This event gives us a chance to be involved in the Atlantan community, indulge in the area’s best restaurants and share something special with the children who attend Taste of Atlanta.”

A variety of kid-focused activities will keep kids and adults busy throughout the day. Enjoy hands-on cooking lessons, face painting and create your own food-focused crafts such as Egg Carton Caterpillars, Milk Carton Plants, Bird Feeders, and

Macaroni Jewelry. Kids can also take part in an interactive activity center presented by CampJam. CampJam is a multi-level curriculum school where students who want to learn how to play in a rock band study daily -- truly a musician’s paradise.

Right in time for the fall season, chefs from the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the American Culinary Federation will entertain attendees with unique and artful pumpkin carvings that kids can use to celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Here’s a sneak preview of what’s coming up on the 2009 Kids Avenue Cooking Stage:

A nine-year-old making his way to the spotlight is Carter Hanna from Decatur. Carter was the winner of Share our Strength’s

Great American Baking Contest in this year’s Children’s Category. Carter will make his award winning Peppermint Velvet

Cupcakes – definitely delectable! Carter has become famous for combining ingredients that are off the beaten path and making something spectacular.

Mother-daughter team, Chinese Southern Belles, pack a punch with palate-pleasing, Asian-Southern dishes. Margaret and

Natalie will entertain festival-goers with wonderful family stories and their flare for “Buddha-to-Bubba” cuisine.

Swing from the trees with Cooking for Monkeys by Pam Galenkamp, a former corporate executive turned super, stay-at-home mom. Pam invented creative ways to have her toddler try new foods since he was turning away all things green. This clever mom now blogs through Cooking with Monkeys which has become an inspiring way for moms to come together and exchange ways to have their kids eat healthy.

Both kids and parents need to take a seat at the Kids Stage when Atlanta based Farmer D, Organic/Biodynamic Farmer teams up with Laura Turner Seydel and her daughter LE. LE is in the fifth grade and she has grown up with a love for our planet earth.

She currently follows her parent’s environmentally friendly footsteps and volunteers with local food banks and participates in trash pick-ups and recycling projects. Learn more about LE’s community work at her website www.lenaturegirl.com.

Lizzie Marie Likness is the nine-year-old Founder and Creative Culinary Officer of Lizzie Marie Cuisine. Lizzie is devoted to teaching children and adults how to have a delicious time making fresh and healthy recipes. Lizzie has been featured on Fox

News, Daily Candy, and won the Del Monte grant for her project Tasty Tidbits created for ‘Do Something Good For You!’ This year Lizzie will take part in the festival as a stage emcee and she is not to be missed!
