 Clarification: The extension below applies only to: o Students who began instruction in Common Core Algebra prior to September 2014 (Extended or

“Stretch” Courses) o Any students who (in the past) completed a course of study in Integrated Algebra (Core Curriculum

2005)

 There will be an additional administration of the Integrated Algebra Regents scheduled for June 2015. At the November meeting, the Board of Regents approved an amendment to the Regulations. The amendment extends to the June 2015 test administration, the option at district discretion, to allow students to take the Regents

Examination in Integrated Algebra (2005 Revised) in addition to the Regents

Examination in Algebra I (Common Core). The higher of the two scores can be used for transcript purposes and will be used for accountability purposes.

 The US DOE approved another one year waiver regarding the assessment requirements for students who are accelerated into Regents Mathematics courses in Grades 7 and 8. Under the waiver (like last year) districts may exempt students who are in Regents Mathematics courses and who will take a

Regents Mathematics Assessment in June 2015, from the grade level (7 or 8) Mathematics Assessment administered in April, These regulation changes will come before the Board for final approval in

January.

 SED is currently working to incorporate the performance of students who take the Algebra Regents in

Grade 8 but who do not take the Grade 8 math test into the state provided growth scores for these teachers and their principals. NYSED is hopeful that this will begin for the 14-15 school year results, but they are still working out the details to ensure that this can be accomplished within the time frame for providing results back to districts in August. As soon as the department can confirm this, they will share the information with the field.

The regulation allowing for students enrolled in Common Core English courses to take the Regents

Comprehensive Exam in English (2005 Learning Standards) in addition to the Regents Exam in ELA

(Common Core) at local discretion has been extended to the January 2015, June 2015, and August

2015 administrations.
