ZHEJIANG UNIVERSITY GUANGHUA INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL PROJECT The Law School of Zhejiang University, located at Zhijiang Campus, has elegant buildings and beautiful scenery. As a distinguished law school, we are famous for the professional curriculum and academic accomplishments. We have the authority to launch LL. D Program of first-class disciplines in law, two doctoral programs of second-class disciplines in legal theory, constitution and administrative law and post-doctoral research station. We also have 9 Master Programs, namely legal theory, constitution and administrative law, law of economy, Civil Law and Commercial Law, international law, Criminal Law, litigation law, Science of Environment and Natural Resources Protection Law, legal history. Besides, we have JM (Juris Master) and undergraduate course of law. We have 6 university-level research institutes: Institute of Legal Theory and System, Institute of Public Law, Institute of Civil and Commercial Law, Institute of International Law, Institute of Economic Law, and Institute of Criminal Law. We have extensive international exchanges and cooperation with worldly famous universities, such as Harvard University, Yale University, New York University, University of Chicago, Boston University, Kyoto University, Waseda University, Kobe University, Hokkaido University, National University of Singapore, The University of Nottingham and so on. 80 percent of our young scholars with a doctorate earn their degree in the international famous universities. Some of them are visiting scholars in the law schools of Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, Indiana University, and University of Chicago. Some of them are invited and highly praised by well-known American universities for giving lectures in pure English to their undergraduates when they are learning abroad. Some of them have the background of international commercial professional lawyer and international lawyer and are well experienced in dealing with international law issues in transnational law firm. Our summer school in 2012 is going to hold the Summer Camp of Global Economy Integration and International Business Law, the Fifth International Summer Camp of Guanghua Law School, and the Senior Seminar of International Law which is cooperated with Thomas Jefferson School of Law, American. 1 Global Economy Integration and International Business Law Guanghua International Summer School This program offers opportunities for students to study in an excellent environment. The core of this program is “professional, practical, polyphyletic and interactive”. Numerous well-known scholars from various areas give diversifying courses to students. Particularly, they carry on the specialized interpretation of the integration of global economy and international business law both from the theoretical level and the practical aspect. The discussions are arranged to help the students enlarge their knowledge scope through mutual communication. This program also has courses on Chinese culture study, which can introduce to the international students the splendid culture and history of China. 1. Purpose (1) To offer opportunities for oversea students to finish foundational courses in China (2) To offer a platform for international students to learn about legal system and the development of market economy in recent China (3) To offer opportunities for Chinese students to learn the most popular courses in American. 2. He has published articles in authoritative journals and core journals home and abroad, and has received awards from Ministries and Provinces. He is an Adjunct Professor in Thomas Jefferson School of Law. (2) Shangshang Liang Professor, Supervisor of PhD Students, SJD, Zhejiang University Guanghua Law School Research Areas: Methodology of Law, Civil and Commercial Law Prof. Liang has published articles in the authoritative journal, Chinese Journal of Law. His research projects have received awards from Ministries and Provinces. His doctoral dissertation was among the “Best 100 Doctoral Dissertation of China”. (3) Jun Zhao Post Graduate Supervisor, LLM, Harvard Law School, JD, Cornell Law School 3 He is the head of Research Institute of International law, Zhejiang University. He was a visiting scholar at East Asian Legal Studies of Harvard Law School. He worked as a lawyer at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo P.C. and Kirkland & Ellis International LLP. He has published articles in top journals. His representative publication is Taking Stock: China’s First Decade of Free Trade. He is elected as Qiushi Young Scholar of Zhejiang university. (4) Li’an Xia Professor, Supervisor of PhD Students, PhD in History, Zhejiang University Guanghua Law School Research Areas: Jurisprudence, Sociology of Law, Human Rights Law, History Prof. Xia has published books and articles, and has received awards from Ministries and Provinces. He holds director of Jurisprudence Research Association of China and director of Legal Education Research Association of China. (5) Huaiwen He Lecturer, Postgraduate Supervisor, SJD, Zhejiang University Guanghua Law School He got the Master Degree in Intellectual Property Rights from George Washington University Law School and has studied in Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property Law in Munich. He is majored in Intellectual Property Law and Scientific Law. His recent works are The Development of Free Trade Agreements and International IP Rights Protection in the WTO Era: New Bilateralism and Its Future (2010), Seeking a Balanced Interpretation of the Three-Step Test - An Adjusted Structure in View of Divergent Approaches (2009). He is also elected as Qiushi Youth Scholar. (6) Paul Baker Prindle Professor of Department of Art History at University of Wisconsin Mr. Prindle was the former Director of the De Ricci Gallery and current Program Director for Edgewood College’ Rome Semester Abroad Program. He has participated in numerous collaborative art initiatives including projects associated with the Venice Biennale and Smithsonian Institutions. His curatorial practice developed through experience with Gagosian Gallery and John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Mr. Prindle is currently a contributing photographer for Our Lives magazine. (7) Juan Javier Pescador Professor of Department of History at Michigan State University Dr. Pescador received his Ph.D. in history from University of Michigan and Postdoctoral Fellow from Julian Samora Research Institute, Michigan State University in 1998.He also held a B.A. in Historical Demography from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in 1990. Then he began his teaching career from 1998, serving as a visiting professor of history at department of history at Oberlin College. He joined in Michigan State University in 1999 working as an assistant 4 professor of history and associate professor later on. Dr. Pescador was named professor of history in 2009. His course is “Introduction to International History (since 1945),U.S. History since 1900 and Modern Latin History.” (8) Timothy Nelson Professor of Social Policy of Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University Main course: Introduction of Sociology and Sociology of Religion. Before joining Harvard University, Dr. Nelson served as lecturer of sociology at University of Pennsylvania from 2004 to 2006. He was also senior lecturer of sociology and research assistant professor at Northwestern University from 2000 to 2004. Dr. Nelson worked as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College from 1998 to 1999. (9) Li Yi Ph.D. of Mathematics at Harvard University Main course: Multivarible Calculus,Linear Algebra and Introductory Statistics. Li Yi is the only student who was matriculated by Harvard University department of mathematics from Chinese mainland at 2007. His supervisors are Professor Shing-Tung Yau, chair of mathematics department of Harvard University and Professor Shlomo Sternberg, distinguished professor of mathematics at Harvard University. Mr. Li Yi began teaching career in 2008. He has served as course instructor and course assistant for Real Analysis, Differential Geometry, Advance Differential Geometry and Semiclassical Analysis at mathematics department of Harvard University. (10) Michael Knight Professor of Management in Business School of University of Wisconsin Michael Knight is an assistant professor in management for the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at UW-Green Bay. He received his B.S. in Aviation Management in 1999, MSEd with majors in both Curriculum Instruction and Public Administration in 2001, and his PhD in Business Administration with majors in MIS and Organizational Behavior in 2005 from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.Dr. Knight teaches undergraduate classes in Management, Strategy, and Managerial Information Systems. (11) Andrés Marroquín Gramajo Professor of Ecomomics at University of Wisconsin Main course:Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Elementary Econmetrics. Since 2006,he has been a visiting professor of international economics, development economics, macroeconomics and leadership at Ashesi University in Accra, West Africa. He has also taught advanced econometrics and multivariate statistics to the largest telecommunication company in Central America. Dr. Andrés Marroquín Gramajo is currently the vice-president of the consulting company “Enterprise and Development,” focused on research and consulting on structural adjustment of micro-lending NGOs, social change, and economic development. He is also a member 5 of Center for the Analysis of Public Decisions and Canadian Association of African Studies. The list of faculty can be referred to in Annex II. 7. Selective System Please visit our Web Site of Guanghua International Summer School (网址链接) and register in. After you complete the application form and pay the application fee, we will examine your materials in 3 working days and you have to pay the tuition in 30 days since you pass the examination. When we receive your tuition, our system will open for you to select the courses according to your interest. You may choose four courses at most, and you may not choose courses which have time conflicts. Each course has both a minimum and a maximum number of applicants. Once a course is full, it will be automatically closed to prevent any additional applicants. If you want to choose a closed course, you may complete an application to join in the waiting list. If the students who have chosen the course change his or her mind, students in the waiting list will be accepted according to the chronological order of their application for this course. Swap, Add & Drop Course: Within the first week of the Summer School, you are free to change your courses. You may drop the course and get a refund. You may pay the price difference and select more courses. You may also swap courses. You have to download Alteration Application Form for any swap, add or drop, fill all the information and submit in to the register office in the first week. The working hour of school office is 9am-5pm. All the changes require the signature and approval of the professor of the course. 6 8. Credit Transferring This program provides credit, non-credit and Chinese culture courses. The curricula arrangement, teaching standard and discipline division of the credit courses meet all the requirements of the universities in Northern America, which help students to meet the graduation requirements in advance through credit transferring. From our website, students can download curriculum schedule and Course Materials send it to the Dean's Offices of American universities for them to estimates the credit course and put them on records. The estimation usually takes 2-4 weeks. After the summer school, the Dean's Offices will receive a school report from Zhejiang University. With the former record of estimation, the American universities will put it into your final Academic Report. It is an international convention that a protocol of credit recognition between summer schools and American universities is unnecessary. 9. Visa Information You can apply for China Business Visa (F Visa) F Visa is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or intern practice for a period of no more than six months. Documents to be included with China F Visa application: 1. Your valid actual passport. The passport must have at least six (6) months validity left before expiration and at least one blank page left in it. 2. One completed and signed Visa Application Form with one passport photo(black & white or color is acceptable). 3. An applicant born in China who applies for a Chinese visa with a new foreign passport is required to submit his /her Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa. 4. Invitation from your host in China, or supporting letter from your employer. To apply for mulitple entry visa you need to provide the official Visa Notification Form issued by an authorized Chinese unit (may be obtained through your business associate in China). US B-1, B-2 vistor visa holder can not apply the China visa in the US. If you hold other valid US visa, you must send your original document and a copy of it. 7 Note: The Chinese consulate only issue single or double entry visa to Non-US citizen - NO EXCEPTIONS. Multiple entry visa are not available for Non-US citizen. China Business Visa Requirements & Additional information Usually, the validity of a Single Entry or Double Entry (F) visa is 90 days from the date of issue, which means the holder of the visa shall enter into China no later than 90 days from the date of issue once for Single Entry/ twice for Double Entry, otherwise the visa is expired and is null and void. The duration of stay of a (F) visa is 30 days, which means the visa holder may stay in China for up to 30 days from the date of entry. Any person suffering from mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases shall not be permitted to enter China. The Validity, Duration of Stay, and Number of Entries of the visa is issued at the discretion of the Consular Officers, whose decisions are based on the laws and regulations of China.
