Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville Job Description Introduction The mission of the Ronald McDonald House® of Charlottesville is to provide low-cost lodging for pediatric patients and/or their families while the child is receiving intensive medical treatment at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. The House offers an affordable, calm, comfortable haven– a home-away-from-home– for exhausted parents who are already stressed by the illness of their child. It is a place where families can relax, eat together, and find support from parents who are in similar situations. The House has bedrooms for 18 different families, and provides a communal kitchen with equipment, play room, game room, computer with internet connection, two living rooms, and a laundry room and supplies. In 2008, 910 families stayed at the House for periods ranging from one day to many months. The House is owned and operated by the local chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities® and is administered by an independent staff and a Board of Directors that is comprised of members of the local community, business and civic leaders as well as parents and volunteers. Position Title Executive Director reporting to Executive Committee of the RMHC Board of Directors Summary The Executive Director’s primary responsibility, based on policies approved by the RMHC Board, is for the overall leadership, direction and supervision of the organization’s affairs, associates, programs, activities and strategic planning. In partnership with the community and the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital, the Executive Director implements the overall policies and procedures set by the RMHC Board of Directors for operations and coordinates public relations. The Executive Director is also responsible for implementation and execution of the fundraising and budgetary policies set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors for stewardship of the organization’s mission statement and the integrity of its goals. Primary Skills/Qualifications • Demonstrated ability to work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a shared vision for the future of the organization, build understanding around the current mission and assist the Board in developing appropriate goals and strategies to advance the mission of the organization. • Demonstrated 5+ years leadership, administrative/management experience with a clear understanding of the organizational aspects of a non-profit organization. • Demonstrated ability to develop an annual budget, have a working knowledge of and ability to monitor financial statements and a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s investment portfolio. • Experience in the initiation, direction and coordination of fundraising activities, donor solicitations and stewardship. • Established technical skills in appropriate software programs and information systems • Compassionate and optimistic leader with strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to represent RMHC to internal and external audiences, and with the ability to inspire and motivate others • Confident, tactful and thoughtful decision maker, comfortable in relating to and working with diverse groups of people Education Bachelors Degree required. Detailed Job Responsibilities Management and Operations: • Responsible for creating and maintaining the overall management systems to ensure the efficiency of the operation • Responsible for budget design and monitoring of operating expense statistics, donation and room revenue analysis and projections, communications with the Board Treasurer. • Responsible for fiscal management and supervision. Implementation and supervision of: - Donation income records and procedures - All accounts payable including room payment revenue - Accounting procedures and production of financial statements • Responsible for operating policy and procedure design, implementation, ongoing supervision and evaluation. • Responsible for writing and updating a comprehensive Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual, and a Standard Operating Policy and Procedure Manual. • Responsible for implementation, utilization, quality control and supervision of computerized information management systems. • Responsible for supervision, training, evaluation and scheduling of all associates of local Chapter and/or House. • Responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace including the implementation and supervision of an associate illness and injury prevention program. • Responsible for administration of associate health insurance plan and benefits. • Administer vacation and sick leave and payroll for all associates. • Researches and obtains a comprehensive insurance policy covering the building and contents. Obtains comprehensive liability coverage for Directors, Officers and guests. Ensures that appropriate coverage is carried at all special events. Board & Committees: • Represents Ronald McDonald House Charities to various audiences in a professional manner consistent with image and mission of this organization. • Serves as ex-officio member of the board, attends and contributes to meetings of the Board of Directors and committee meetings to report on program-related issues and service statistics. • Executes policies determined by the Board. • Provides a monthly written CEO Report for inclusion in the corporate records. • Oversight of fundraising including research, grant compliance documentation, working with outside organizations or individuals that raise funds on behalf of House, providing support for all Board fundraising events. • Ensures compliance with McDonald’s License Agreement for operation of RMHC Chapter, Ronald McDonald House and /or other RMHC-related programs. Manages delivery of consistent messages and proper usage of RMHC/RMH trademarks. • Responsible for community relations, including liaison with and coordination of medical facilities, public functions, City/County/State/National agencies. The primary spokesperson responsible for public/media relations. • Responsible for official Ronald McDonald House Charities program business. Maintains relationships with local McDonald’s owner/operators, Co-Op, regional office and country staff. Maintains communications with McDonald’s Corporation and Ronald McDonald House Charities Global Office. Program Services: • Serves as a central spokesperson for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. • Supervises all programs undertaken by the RMHC Chapter. Serves as liaison to Board and Board committees with respect to each of these programs. • Institutes and supervises quality control systems. Supervises maintenance of facility conditions, engagement of independent contractors for repairs and other projects, troubleshoots emergencies.
