Guidelines for Giving
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) national and local mission is to help as many children
as possible in communities around the world by supporting "homes-away-from-home" for families
of seriously ill children and other programs that help children reach their fullest potential All local
RMHC grants to not-for-profit organizations whose programs help children reach their fullest
potential in 3 distinct areas:
 Civic and Social Services
 Education and the Arts
 Health Care and Medical Research including the Burlington, Vermont Ronald
McDonald House
These guidelines are provided to help your organization prepare a successful grant application.
Please study it carefully and include with our proposal all the information requested. Due to the
number of requests we receive, incomplete proposals will not be reviewed by the RMHC Grant
Committee. Also, although your organization may send a completed application, we cannot fund
all programs
The criteria enclosed are our guidelines. Once an application has been submitted, those
applications cannot be altered to meet guidelines or criteria.
Funding Considerations...
Guidelines
To be considered for funding, an organization should submit a 501(c) (3) or letter from project leader.
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMFIC) Grant Committee is most interested in
organizations that have:
 A program that directly benefits children
 Consistent and affective management
 Clear goals and objectives
 A broad base of funding support
 A demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of specific groups of children in a manner
that yields measurable results
 Request funds for specific program support
 Each organization may submit one (1) grant every three (3) years
RMHC does not fund:
 Advertising or fundraising drives
 Partisan, political or denominational programs
 General and administrative costs
 Intermediary funding agencies
 Endowment campaigns
 Ongoing salaries or travel expenses
 Requests that are not in writing
Preparation and Submission....
Your grant proposal must be submitted in English and on an RMHC grant application form. The
form requests the following information:
Cover letter on your stationary, and an authorized signature of support and briefly
outline:
 The background of the organization
 Nature of the proposal and request
 Concise description of the needs
 Specific purpose of the funds requested
Budget and financial statements must include:
 Itemized budget for the program or project to which funds requested
 Current year's operating budget
 Audited financial statements or latest 990 forms, including a balance sheet
 Board of Directors list
 Completed checklist (indicating that all requested information has been submitted)
Type directly on the application, single space and single-side pages only. You may duplicate the
application form on your computer; however, it must look like our application, page for page. Use
standard black type that can be photocopied. Draw all graphs, diagrams, tables and charts in black
ink. Do not include any items that cannot be photocopied. When submitting your request for
funding, you must include two copies of the grant application and two copies of each of the
required items listed on the checklist. IF ANY OF THE ITEMS REQUIRED ARE NOT
INCLUDED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPT.FTE AND THE
REVIEW WILL BE DELAYED OR DECLINED.
Review process....
Locally Ronald McDonald House Charities is governed by a 3/5 member Grant
Committee comprised of:
 Ronald McDonald House Board members and Staff
 McDonald's Representative
The Grant Committee meets on a regular basis to review and select grant requests to not-for
profit organizations which have demonstrated an ability to respond to the needs of specific
groups of children in a definitive, "hands on" manner that yields measurable result& These
grant requests will be brought to the Ronald McDonald House Charity of Burlington's Board
of Directors for final approval:
If the Grant Committee has questions regarding your proposal, you may receive a telephone
call or a letter requesting further information or an appointment for a site visit
All Ronald McDonald House Charity Board decisions are reported by mail, generally within
twenty working days of the Board of Director's meeting.
If your proposal is approved, your organization will receive a Letter of Agreement outlining
the terms and conditions of the grant which must be signed by an authorized organization
official and returned to RMHC. This letter will also highlight arrangements for awarding of
the grant.
Responsibility of Recipient....
The recipient of any grant from RMTIC must use the funds awarded for the specific
purpose of their original intent. RNIFIC requires that recipient to submit a brief written
grant report within thirty days after the grant funds are expended. Grant reports should
review and evaluate what was accomplished with grant assistance.

7. ADDITIONAL FUNDING — RMHC of Burlington, VT evaluates each grant
application and makes a final determination in one of four possible ways:




Approve the full amount as requested
Approve the partial funding for the program/project
Table the decision to await further information or clarification, which
will then be reviewed at an upcoming meeting of the Grant Review
Committee; or
Deny Request
If your organization received partial funding for this project, will additional funding be
sought from external sources, or will the organization make an internal funding
