John H. Sununu John Sununu had a long and influential career, which began as President of JHS Engineering Company and Thermal Research Inc. He also helped develop, and was the chief engineer for Astro Dynamics Inc from 1960 until 1965. In 1968 he turned to a more academic focus, and was the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at Tufts University, as well as an Associate Professor of mechanical Engineering. During this time Dr. Sununu worked on the Advisory Board of the Technology and Policy program MIT, where he had received his own PhD. In 1983 John Sununu realized his political ambitions and became the 75th Chief Executive of New Hampshire. During his three terms as governor he served as chairman of the Coalition of Northeastern Governors’, as well as the chairman of the Republican Governors’ Association. In 1987 he was elected as the chair of the National Governors’ Associations. These positions highlighted his abilities as a leader and politician. In 1989 he was picked to be the Chief of Staff to the President, George H.W. Bush, where he served until March 1, 1992.
