Welcome Spring with Fresh Ideas, Plants and Tools
Check out the Latest Locally-Grown Plants, Learn Something New and Enjoy Family Fun, Too!
WILMETTE, Ill. (April 21, 2014) – To start spring and summer on the right foot – and
with the greenest thumb – those looking to improve their lawn, landscape and garden can gear
up, spend some quality family time together and learn new ideas at Chalet’s “Garden Faire” on
Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4.
Throughout the event, Chalet, in Wilmette, Ill., is offering a series of free, how-to
lectures and demonstrations, special savings on plants and tools, and activities for the whole
family. Lecture topics include:

“Making a Garden Pollinator Friendly,” Saturday, May 3, 11 a.m. Are you looking for
ways to make your garden as environmentally friendly as possible? Attracting pollinators
is one way to help. Learn how to increase the flowering plant quotient in your garden
from Chalet’s resident beekeeper, Adam Sturtewagen.

“Creating a Garden to Excite the Senses,” Saturday, May 3, 2 p.m. Chalet’s Specialty
Garden team will offer easy ways to develop a garden that will engage all five senses for
you and your guests. Whether it’s creating habitats for birds to enjoy or learning how to
make containers full of scintillating herbs, you’ll come away with easy-to-execute ideas
to stimulate the senses and enhance your surroundings.

“Bluestone, Flagstone and Pavers …Oh, My!”, Sunday, May 4, 11 a.m. Dorothy had it
easy: the Wizard had already installed the Yellow Brick Road. You, on the other hand,
have a wealth of hardscape options. If you’re considering a new walk, path or patio this is
a great opportunity to hear the pros-and-cons of the best paving materials for our area.
One of Chalet’s registered landscape architects will share what you need to know about
bluestone, pavers, flagstone and more.


“Landscape Design Trends for 2014,” Sunday, May 4, 2 p.m. Does your landscape
look dated? Is 2014 the year to do your new garden, walk, outdoor room or water feature?
Whatever landscape project you’re considering, isn’t it smart to gather as much
information as possible – before you make costly mistakes? Why not learn your options?
Whether it’s a concept, a material or a plant you didn’t know, join us and experience
what’s new and what’s hot from a registered Chalet landscape architect.
New this spring: several varieties of annuals and perennials have arrived in Chalet’s
nursery. Create a buzz in your neighborhood by being among the first to plant the most recentlyintroduced blooms, including many locally-grown and Midwest-hardy beauties.
Save as you shop, too! Chalet Valet members will enjoy special discounts during
“Garden Faire” weekend, with 20-percent savings on all plants for inside and out, and 20-percent
savings on Alfresco-brand outdoor furniture and Treasure Garden umbrellas. Shoppers who are
not yet Chalet Valet members can sign up for the free program those days and receive the
accompanying discounts.
Bring the whole family for springtime fun (and find the perfect Mother’s Day gift for the
following weekend). The Street Team from KHiTS 104.3 radio will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. on Saturday, and popcorn will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
As you sharpen your lawn, garden and landscape know-how, sharpen your tools, too!
Tool sharpening returns to “Garden Faire,” offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days. Cost is
$9.99 for the first tool sharpened, with each additional item half-off that price.
Throughout the busy seasons ahead, Chalet’s experts are on hand to answer questions
about your garden, lawn and landscape. Concerned about plants damaged after this year’s rough
winter? Bring them in for a quick evaluation under the microscope by Chalet’s plant
diagnostician. Not sure how to create a privacy border? Chalet’s Design Center landscape
architects can help with tree and shrub recommendations. Having a garden party? Let Chalet’s
house and home experts show you the latest ideas for stunning outdoor tablescapes in styles
ranging from funky to classic.
