Application Requirements and Procedures
Thank you for your interest in this study abroad program. This program will include participation in the World Model
United Nations Conference, in Rome, Italy. Students will be expected to meet regularly in the Spring 2016 semester in
order to do research work to prepare for their participation in the World MUN conference.
Dates of the Program
March 11 or 12 Fly to Rome (you will lose one day and will want to arrive on March 13 at the latest)
March 14-18 World MUN Conference
March 19 or 20 Fly to Arizona
Cost
CIE program costs: approx. $20. Includes international insurance. I will give out information about how to register for
this in late October.
Conference registration: $150/delegate. Delegates must register themselves by October 15. Once delegates have been
accepted on the team, I will provide registration details.
Housing: approx. $750-1000, for 7-8 nights. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Parco de Medici. Rooms are
$150 for doubles and $200 for triple rooms. Breakfast is included. Cheaper hotels are available, such as the Hotel Ibis
Rome Fiera, but then there will be additional transportation costs to and from the conference.
Transportation: approx. $1300. Students are responsible for arranging their own travel from Flagstaff to the hotel in
Rome, and then from the hotel in Rome to Flagstaff. This includes shuttles Flagstaff-PHX, flight PHX-Rome, shuttle
from Rome airport to the hotel, and then the whole process in reverse. Note that flight prices can change dramatically
over time.
Food: approx. $500. Students are responsible for their own food. The cost will vary widely depending upon individual
preferences and choices. Alcohol is very expensive (ahem).
Other: $300??? Students are responsible for costs of World MUN socials and additional sightseeing.
Scholarships
Students can apply for Education Abroad Scholarships through CIE, including the ASNAU GO Scholarship. Look at this

In addition, members will be looking to raise money from ASNAU, the SBS Dean, and other sources.
In addition, I would strongly encourage anyone interested in attending this conference to engage in fundraising.
Donations are tax-deductible, and checks can be made out to the NAU Foundation, Model UN fund #5291. You may
send your donation to the NAU Foundation, Box 4094. Flagstaff, AZ 86011 or make your gift online at nau.edu/giving –
use the dropdown box to highlight “Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of”; in the second dropdown box, highlight
“Model United Nations.” Donations can be applied as scholarships for students.
Application Requirements
The following are requirements that students must complete before applying to this program:
 Currently enrolled NAU undergrad, grad or non-degree seeking student for Spring 2016
 GPA of 2.25 or above
 Demonstrated activity in a college-level MUN club, including roles in leadership and fundraising
 Awards or recognition at college-level MUN conferences will be considered a very strong asset
Application Procedure
Students interested in applying to this program must submit a typed application to Dr. Gee no later than Tuesday, October
6, 2015. This application should take the form of a letter, addressed to Dr. Gee, explaining first how the student meets the
application requirements, and secondly, what additional skills and abilities the student brings to the program.
Club leadership and Dr. Gee will review the applications, and select a team, which will be announced on Tuesday,
October 13, 2015.
