School Board Notes The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit Board of Directors held their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 7:30 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Henderson, Mr. Bovalino, Mr. Ross, Mr. Bufalini, Ms. Pennington, Mr. Yanyanin, Mr. Carver, Mrs. Acon and Mr. McGeehan MEMBERS ABSENT: Mr. Angus, MS. The Board approved the following people as additions to the 2014-2015 Teacher Substitute List: a. Angela Manjerovic, Georgetown, PA b. Susan Butler, Ellwood City, PA c. Arleen Ojeda, Beaver Falls, PA d. Joneatra Florence, Coraopolis, PA e. Linda Stanley, Baden, PA f. Elizabeth Booze, Darlington, PA 2. The Board took action to approve the request to solicit bids for the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit’s Joint Purchasing Program for the 2015-2016 school year. 3. The Board cancelled the December 24, 2014, Board of Directors’ meeting and administration was granted the authority to pay bills with ratification at the January 28, 2015, Board meeting. 4. The Board granted authorization to seek bids for the final twelve unit ventilator replacements at New Horizon School. 5. The Board approved the GASB 54 – Committed Fund Balance for the Central Office Building and New Horizon School. These monies will be used for future capital needs, including any renovations/repair projects. 6. In order to qualify under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) as recommended for waiver of Premium Health Care Coverage, pre-tax Health Savings Account (HAS) contributions, the Board approved the amended Section 125 Plan. 7. The Board renewed the contract with Tuscarora Intermediate Unit #11 to rent office space to them at New Horizon School for Parent to Parent of Pennsylvania. 8. The Board approved the use of Cornerstone Engineering Group to develop plans, specifications, bidding documents and construction management services for the unit ventilator project at New Horizon School. 9. The Board adopted the BVIU’s six-year Comprehensive Plan. 10. The Board reviewed Policies 100 and 200 of the Policy manual with action to be taken at the January 28, 2015, Board of Directors’ meeting. 11. The Board reviewed the job descriptions of the BVIU employees with action to be taken at the January 28, 2015, Board of Directors’ meeting. BVIU Annual Reorganization Dinner Meeting – December 9, 2014 The BVIU Annual Reorganization Dinner Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at the Beaver County Career & Technology Center. Please make your reservations through your local school district superintendent’s office. BVIU Digital Library Consortium Through the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit Digital Library Consortium, 12 districts now have access to a web-based library that allows students 24/7 online access to a digital collection of eBooks, audiobooks, music and video. Students/teachers can browse a shared collection and check out titles online in the browser with OverDrive Read. Digital collections can also be downloaded on Kindle, Apple and Android mobile devices. D. OTHER BUSINESS – After the Pledge of Allegiance Mr. McGeehan asked everyone to remain standing for a moment of silence in memory of Mrs. Nadine Robbins, mother of Ms. Carson Robbins, BVIU Board member, who recently passed away. BVIU BOARD NOTES #467 3 NOVEMBER 19, 2014 Dr. Rosendale thanked everyone for coming out to support New Horizon’s Open House in conjunction with American Education week. Mr. McGeehan thanked the teachers, aides and custodial staff for the wonderful job that they are doing at New Horizon School. Mr. McGeehan also mentioned the wonderful write-up in the Beaver County Times regarding Mrs. Harmotto’s daughter, Mrs. Christa Harmotto Dietzen. Mrs. LeDonne and Mrs. Deitch gave a brief synopsis of what they have going on in their offices. Mrs. Rene Fencil’s students from the Vocational Preparation class did a presentation on all of the projects that they are doing in and out of the classroom.
