Inauguration Session
Day Wise Schedule for Orientation Week (21-26 September 2009)
Day 1, 21 September 2009
Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Mohali began its academic session 2009-10 on the auspicious
occasion of ID-ul-Fitr on 21 September 2009. Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal welcomed the prospective
teachers and members of RABOSA (Rayat & Bahra Old Student Association). After introducing the
faculty members of the institution, the worthy Principal substantiated her expectations for the students
of the current session. She advised them to be proud of their profession, learn time-management, sense
of belongingness towards the institutes.
Mr. Shashi Kumar, lecturer highlighted the historical importance of ID-ul-Fitr. He further added that
of ID it was appropriate day which was fixed for the interaction of the old and the new students and
saying ‘’ID Mubarak” to each other.
All students introduced themselves to the audience.
The Rayatians of RABOSA (Education) shared their experiences during their stay in the campus
regarding praiseworthy Principal, respected teachers and above all the congenial atmosphere that was
provided to them. The freshers introduced themselves to the audience. The program ended with varied
lively cultured activities.
Day 2, 22 September 2009
Mrs. Navneet Chopra, Sr. lecturer introduced the B.Ed course, the criteria for prizes to be given at
the end of the session and Internal Assessment, various options and crafts, compulsory classes and their
respective subject teachers.
Day 3, 23 September 2009
The NSS Day was inaugurated by Dr. Paramvir Singh. After saluting his teachers, he acquainted the
NSS volunteers with the aims, objectives and activities of NSS. He also explained the significance of
symbol, badge and the motto - NOT ME, BUT YOU i.e. to provide selfless service to the community.
Day 4, 24 September 2009
On the fourth day, Sh. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman, RBGI addressed the prospective teachers
and blessed them with the prosperous future and successful life ahead.
Mrs. Sarita Manuja, Director, Training and Placement threw light on the paradigm change in the 21 st
century. Learners think and process the information fundamentally different from their predecessors.
Now-a-days, we have thinking students.
Dr. Satinder Dhillon, Principal, Divya Shiksha Gurukul College of Education advised the pupil teachers
to be proud of their profession as teachers are the nation builders. B.Ed., being a professional course,
the pupil teachers are expected to be innovative, expressive and dedicated.
. The day ended with the Power Point Presentation by Dr. Navita Mahajan showing the major
achievements of the last five sessions of RBCE, Mohali.
Day 5, 25 September 2009
On the last day of the orientation program the prospective teachers were introduced with the
teaching subjects and the weekend courses. The institute offers 12 teaching subjects like teaching of
music, fine arts, home science and physical education along with regular teaching subjects of teaching of
languages, social studies, science, commerce, economics, and mathematics in B.Ed.

Self-evaluation on the basis of Internal Assessment by Students
To make the system more transparent and free of prejudice, students were asked to calculate and
write their internal assessment on the basis of the criteria given in their cumulative diaries which was
explained to them in the beginning of the session.
Weekend Courses
Recognizing the importance of changing global trends and their effects on teacher education,
specialized weekend courses have been introduced to meet the emerging needs of prospective teachers
as well as the world of work which awaits them. Following courses were offered to the students:
LIFE (Learning in Informal and Formal Environment):
It intends to explore HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills as prescribed by CBSE) through innovation
and alternative ideas in education.
Creating Inclusive Classrooms:
An introduction to learning disabilities by Ms. Ruchika Sachdeva from Lakshaya Centre, Gurgaon.
Jagriti: Spirit of Volunteerism.
Community involvement is vital for the success and sustainability of any social initiative. To inculcate
the altruistic spirit amongst the prospective teachers and also to promote good of improving human
quality of life, the course has been devised of. The social capital represented by volunteerism plays a key
role in strengthening of the social fiber. For this we collaborated with the Bharat Prakash Foundation,
Chandigarh. Our 11 motivated prospective teachers taught at Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Centers run by
Bharat Prakash Foundation, Chandigarh on Saturdays.
Samavesh: Community Work.
Samavesh, an effort to serve the community was organized with the following objectives:
 To understand the community for identifying the needs and problems of the community and
involving them in problem-solving process
 To promote social harmony and national integration
 To acquire leadership qualities, democratic attitude and feeling of concernedness
Under the leadership of Mrs. Supreet and Mrs. Sharanjeet Kaur our students interact with the
inmates of Home of Helpless Mentally/Physically Disabled, Orphan and Unclaimed Missing Destitute,
Universal Disabled Care-Taker Social Welfare Society, Padiala. Mrs. Sharanjeet Kaur along with 3
students teaches yoga to the inmates.

CHRYSALIS
The college also has Chrysalis, a three-tier mentorship program, which is one of the best practices
of our institute. It is operational for B.Ed and M.Ed. Students.
 MMP (Master Mentorship Programme): One prospective teacher educator mentors eight
prospective teachers with the same educational background in all the aspects.
 BMP (Bachelor’s Mentorship Programme): Prospective teachers with science and maths as
teaching subjects mentor two students from the RBIEBT-School Wing (+2 Non-Medical)

PIP (Peer-in-Partnership): Computer literate students assist computer beginner students in
B.Ed.
RESOURCE CENTRES
In accordance with the NCTE guidelines published in ‘Organizing Teaching Learning Resources in
Teacher Education Institutions – A Manual for the Teacher Education Institutions and Teacher
Educators’ the nomenclature for science lab, psychology lab and educational technology lab were
changed to respective resources centres. As mentioned in the said manual, these places in Teacher
Education Institutions are expected to possess all types of teaching-learning material like charts, models,
games, audio-visual material, supplementary reading material which can be used by teacher educators
for ‘demonstration’ purposes and by the student teachers during practice teaching in schools.
Apart from the available infrastructure we added Mathematics Resource Centre, Social science
resource centre, Music room, Physical Education room, Information and Communication Technology
Resource Centre.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP CELL
An Entrepreneurship Cell was established by the group to provide financial aid the passing out
students to start their own enterprise.
RAYAT-BAHRA ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
As the campus is expanding and so are the ventures of the group, we feel proud to proclaim that
preference shall be given to the pass outs of Rayat-Bahra Group in matters of employment.
ACADEMIC JOURNAL
RBCE, Mohali took the initiative to start an Academic Journal in November, 2009 pertaining to the
field of education. It is meant for carrying research papers, journals, articles and book – reviews
Achievements
NAAC Inspection (May 24 -26, 2010)
NAAC Peer Team visited Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Mohali for the thorough inspection
from 24th to 26th May, 2010. During the meeting the team looked over the infrastructure, interacted
with students, alumni, parents of the students, faculty members, members of governing body,
management and other stakeholders. The visit was certainly an opportunity to learn and grow. It
concluded with the Exit Meeting on 26th May 2010.
Memorandum of Understanding
Rayat & Bahra College of Education, in its stride to excel and provide the best to its students signed
the MOU with the following organizations:
 Intel: The Intel® Teach Program engages both teachers and students in the development of 21st
century skills and the integration of technology for teaching and learning. Using these 21st
century skills with the Essentials Course curriculum, teachers develop a project-based unit of



instruction aligned to standards with multiple forms of student assessment (formative and
summative).
WIPRO: – “Wipro Applying Thought in Schools”, is Wipro’s social initiative to engage with
systemic reform of the Indian education system and to build capacity on the ground for
educational reform. It works through CEVA (Centre for Education and Voluntary Action) to
initiate, facilitate and carry on, dialogue and conversations within the community for mutual
education.

M.Ed. Students
Our M.Ed. students organized Inter college competitions in skill-in-teaching to celebrate Technology
Day on 13 May 2010 on the theme “Role of ICT in Education”.
B.Ed. students
Our prospective teachers participated in various inter college competitions and brought laurels to
the college. Major achievements were:
 The students of RBCE, bagged Overall Trophy in Inter College Competitions held at S.R.S.M. Mukat
College of Education, Rajpura on February 9, 2010 with the theme ‘Women Empowerment: Still A
Distant Dream’.
 Our students grabbed Overall Trophy in Inter College Competitions organized at Chandigarh College
of Education, Landran on 10th March,2010 with the theme ‘Exploring New Horizons’
 The students won Overall Trophy in Skill in Teaching Competitions conducted at Smt. Jawala Devi
College of Education, Sanghol on 22nd March,2010
 Gurwinder Singh, student of B.Ed. “Rayat & Bahra College of Education”, Mohali Campus attended
the ’North-East Youth Festival’ held at Kohima, Nagaland and participated in group dance (Bhangra)
and represented ‘Punjab State’ in State Level exhibition and was awarded Certificate of
Appreciation by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Director General of Nehru
Yuva Kendra Sangathan. He was awarded with certificate of Participation by chief secretary of Govt
of Nagaland.
 Mona Kashyap, B.Ed. student presented paper at State Level Seminar on “Soil conservation &
Water management at Shivalik Institute of Education & Research, Mohali on 23rd March 2010 on
the Sub theme “water management”
 Daljeet Kaur, our B.Ed. student participated in State Level Contest organised on 25th October, 2009
at Punjabi Bhawan, near Bharat Nagar Chowk, Ludhiana to commemorate the 102nd birth
anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Eleven students from our college were deputed to train students in various government schools of
Mohali district for appearing in PUNJAB STATE TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION (2009-10) as well as
national level. They gained the information from the one day workshop that was organized by D.E.O
office, Mohali on 10th December at Dashmesh Sr. Sec. School, Phase-3B1, Mohali where pupil teachers
were trained about various aspects of Talent Search Examination.

delivered by Mrs. Bindu Sharma, Principal, Rayat International School, Railmajra.

Seminars, Workshops, Conferences etc Organized by the College
INTEL TEACH ESSENTIAL ONLINE COURSE WORKSHOP (24-28 July 2009)
Intel Teach essential online course was organized for the Faculty of all the three campuses from 24
to 28 July, 2009 wherein faculty members of all the three campuses were trained to be Master trainers
and are given training on the integration of ICT in Education by Mr. Sanjay Bareja, Resource person from
Intel Teach Essential online programme.
IX ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF COUNCIL FOR TEACHER EDUCATION (26 September 2009)
Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Sahauran organized IX Annual Conference for Teacher
Education on ‘Exploring Possibilities in Education’ on 26th September, 2009. Dr. Navita Mahajan,
lecturer, welcomed the guests and delegates present in the conference. Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal,
RBCE introduced the theme of the seminar. Mrs. Vineta Sood, Director, Bhavya, Bangalore presented
the key note address. Prof. R.P.Malhotra, Chief Guest, National fellow, NUPEA, New Delhi, Prof. K. N.
Pathak, Former Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Vij, President, CTE, Punjab/
Chandigarh Chapter and Dr. Satinder Dhillon, Vice President, CTE, Northern Region addressed the
audience present in the conference.
First Session
The first session was chaired by Dr. Sarita Manuja, Director, Training, Rayat-Bahra Group of
Institutes. The resource person, Dr. Kanwarjit Singh Bindra, Lecturer, Department of Physics, Panjab
University, Chandigarh threw light on Alternative Thought Processes and Methods in Education.
Second Session
The second session of the conference was chaired by Prof. Kanwarjit Singh. (Former DPI collegesPunjab).The expert, Mrs. Vineeta Sood highlighted the contrast between parental and teachers
expectations and the outcome of how we deal with the classroom and daily life situations.
WORKSHOP ON FINE ARTS (9 October 2009)
On 9 October2009 we organized a stall on the eve of Karva Chauth. Fifteen girls participated in the
event of mehandi competition. Teachers from different departments came to the stall for mehandi. As a
result of which our students gained motivation. They organized another workshop near diwali festival.
They themselves bought raw material like wax for candle making, wall hanging, murals, burada for
rangoli and white cloth for bed sheets and kurtis, handmade sheet and tea kettle for melting wax. With
the hard work and efforts the students made colourful kurtis, bed sheets, wall hangings, Lamp shades,
rangoli, floating diyas and other household articles. The distinguished guests Brig. J.S. Nagra, Director of
Engineering and Bio Technology and Mr. Johal Singh, Director Administrator and Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani,
Principal appreciated the initiative taken by the students and the wonderful presentation of their talent.
INTEL TEACH ESSENTIAL ONLINE COURSE WORKSHOP (10-11December 2009)
On 10th and 11th December, Intel Teach Essential Online Course was conducted for all staff
members, M.Ed. and B.Ed students to equip them with the practical knowledge. After this Ms. Aruna
Grover a resource person working as a manager, National Education Network from Intel Delhi gave
theoretical as well as practical knowledge about e-learning to the Students of B.Ed & M.Ed. Intel Teach is
program that provides professional development to educator in the integration of ICT in Education. She
gave lecture on Intel innovation in education and sharing strategies for building innovation &
collaboration in teacher education through e-resources. Intel Innovation in Education Initiative is a
sustained commitment in collaboration with educators & government leaders worldwide.
A worldwide program created by teachers, for teachers to help them effectively to integrate
technology into instructions and enhance students learning. Intel teach program has trained more than
10 lakh educators in India. Program is associated with 75 Universities and 12 SCERT’s. Intel Teach
program integrate technology, project based learning and higher order thinking skills with each other.
She emphasized in her lecture on paradigm shift in education from teacher centred to learner centred.
She also provide us with a list of different e-libraries, online academic journal & online encyclopaedias,
web tools for collaboration and other online resources for students and teachers. This course contains 9
Modules. She gave knowledge about all to create their own blogs, Wikipedia’s.
Guest Lectures


On 9th December, Mr. P. S. Grewal, advocate from Punjab and Haryana High Court
was cordially invited to deliver guest lecture on awareness on human rights.
On 14th December, a special assembly was conducted Mr. R. S. Kang, Principal of Khalsa
Senior Secondary School, Kurali was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Various cultural activities like
shabad, song, dances, speeches on right to education, Role of NHRC for the protection of Human
rights were conducted on the stage. Mr. Kang sensitized the students with the Human Rights as
Female Foeticide, Women rights and teacher exploitation. Dr.(Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal, RBCE,
admired the efforts made by the students in celebrating Human rights week and advised all to
implement the whole initiative practically in ones' own life.
WORKSHOP ON USE OF LATEST TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION (29-30 January 2010)
Workshop on use of technology in education was conducted on 29th and 30th January by Dr. J. J
Singh, Assistant Prof., Panjab University, Department of Correspondence Studies, Chandigarh for faculty,
M.Ed. and selected B.Ed students.
In Session I, he acquainted the audience with the concept and the tips to use the skills of
technology. He explained instructional media & multimedia. Advertisements were shown to explain
time duration management. He talked about internet usage web 1, Web 2.0. He discussed about
recording of micro teaching lesson plan. The detail of Orkut usage through web 2.0 technology was
explained. The features of Handy Camera were discussed & how to use it was explained through
demonstration. He provided information of preparing teaching aids with the help of film making.
In Session II, Film making was explained theoretically as well as given demonstration were given to
the students. He demonstrated how shooting is done. Faculty members demonstrated micro lesson
plans. The students were divided into groups and asked to enact on the given situations as well as
advertisements.
SEMINAR ON DRUG ADDICTION IN PUNJAB (19March 2010)
State Level Seminar on ’’Drug Addiction in Punjab Prevalence and Preventive Measures “sponsored
by ICSSR, North –West Regional centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh was organized on 19th March
2010 in Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Mohali. College Principals, teacher educators, teachers
were delegates from 15 education colleges and schools from Punjab and Chandigarh who attended the
seminar.
The esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. B. S. Chavan Head Department of Psychiatry GMCH sector 32
Chandigarh inaugurated the seminar by enlightening the Deepshikha. On the basis of his eight years of
experience of working with mentally challenged persons.
Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Mohali introduced the theme of
the seminar. She emphasized that life is tough and to have the ability to laugh at it is tougher, but
toughest would be to enjoy it without coming in the grip of any vices.
The honourable Chairman RBGI, S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra appreciated the efforts for conducting the
seminar to understand the existing scenario, socio-economic aspects, role of media, medical fraternity
and educators in solving the problem of drug dependence which is griping the youth of our country
especially in the state of Punjab.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Mohali Campus Director also apprised RBCE for taking initiative in organizing
socially useful activities from time to time in the college.
It was followed by presentations by resource persons on various sub-themes Dr. Kiran Preet Kaur
Associate Prof, Dept. of Sociology, PU Chandigarh, sensitized the participants regarding drug menace in
Punjab-a great social concern.
Ms. Chitleen K. Sethi, Principal Correspondent, The Tribune talked about the growing menace of
pharmaceutical drug abuse in Punjab addressing ‘drug addiction’ as Punjab’s Sixth River .
Dr.Pramod Kumar, consultant psychiatrist, Silver Oaks Hospital, Mohali highlighted the effects of
drug addiction and its treatment. He elaborated that drug addiction is a major health hazard and its use
is as old as mankind.
The Guest of Honour Sh. Avinash Rai Khanna, Member Punjab State Human Right Commission
advised media, politics and society to join their hands to curb the menace of drug addiction.
EXTENSION LECTURES DELIVERED IN THE COLLEGE
CONTINUOUS COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION(25 February 2010)
A lecture was delivered by Mrs. Bindu Sharma, Principal, Rayat International, Railmajra on 25th
February, 2010 on Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation. She acquainted the audience that the entire
session is divided into two terms-April- September and October-March.60% evaluation is on the basis of
academic and 40%evaluation is on the basis of day to day activities. The assessment is carried on in two
ways-Formative assessment i.e. throughout the year and Summative i.e. at the end of the year.
COMMUNICATION SKILL (9 March 2010)
A lecture was delivered by Ms. Neha, Trainer in Soft skills, Bird Academy, Delhi on 9th March on
Communication Skills. She emphasized that the student is the reflection of the teacher. The trainer also
familiarized with the Barriers to Communication like Noise inappropriate medium, assumptions or
misconceptions, emotions, Language differences, Poor delivery system, poor listening system,
Distractions, lack of interest. In the end, she suggested that we can improve our existing level of
communication by improving language and pronunciation, working on voice modulation, working on
body language, reading more, listening more, interacting with qualitative people, thinking & speaking,
neither speaking too fast nor too slow.
CAREER COUNSELLING DRIVE (16-17 November 2009)
RBGI carried out a ‘Carrier Counselling Drive’ on 16th and 17th November, 2009 for class X Students
of Tagore Niketan School, Kharar and Vikram Public School, Kharar at Mohali campus. Mr. Gurwinder
Singh Bahra, Vice-Chairman, RBGI, took upon him the gigantic social responsibility for helping the
students to choose the carrier in right earnest way.
Mrs. Sarita Manuja, Director, Training and Placement, appreciated Mr. nagra, director, RBIEBT,
Dr.(Mrs.) Indu Rihani, principal, RBCE, Sahauran and Mr. jatinder Gupta, principal, Tagore Niketan
school, Kharar who initiated the step to give counselling to the students at the appreciation stage.
Keeping gin the mind, the need of the hour, the project was taken up for have adopt for supporting their
families in future.
Mr. JK Sharma, Diligent Counsellor, TBGI, Ropar campus guided and acquainted the students
regarding all the top available professions- Civil Services, Medical Profession, CA, Law, Engineering,
Fashion Designing them with pros and cons of each profession.
INTERACTION WITH MR. Phill Balcean (20 April 2010)
Mr. Phill Balcean from the second largest University in Vancouver, Canada visited RBCE, Mohali on
20th April, 2010. He is running a Teacher Education Program for 30 students by laying more emphasis on
critical thinking especially in the subjects as Maths, Science and Social Studies. He exchanged his views
with the teacher educators and interacted at a long length. The faculty members asked their queries
regarding the education system in Canada. He elaborated his discussion on certain aspects as admission

DAYS CELEBRATED
NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY (11November 2009)
On National Education Day, Rayat & Bahra college of education, Sahauran arranged a group
discussion on 11th November, 2009 on the topic ‘Quality Concerns in Teacher Education with Special
Reference to B.Ed .Curriculum’, The M.Ed. students showed full enthusiasm by actively participating in
the discussion and contributing their positive ideas and suggestions for overhauling the curriculum of
B.Ed.
NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY(13TH MAY 2010)
RBCE, Mohali organized One Day Workshop cum seminar on 13th May 2010 on the theme ‘Role of
ICT in Education’ with various sub-themes. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Punjab
State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) to commemorate National Technology Day.
Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal, RBCE presented a warm welcome to all the delegates present at
the occasion. She introduced the theme, ‘Role of ICT on Education’ which is a special area of interest in
our institution in the session 2009-10.
Prof. Meenakshi Sharma, Deptt. of Education & Community Services, Punjabi University, Patiala was
the Chief Guest on the occasion. Being herself from the discipline of teacher education, she addressed
the teacher educators as ‘teachers in the making’ and appreciated the M.Ed. students of RBCE, Mohali
for conducting the seminar on the topic of current concern.
The key note address was presented by Mrs. Sarita Manuja, Director Leadership Training
Institute, RBGI who emphasized the use of technological advancements as a tool for learning.
The Inter College skill in teaching competitions for prospective teachers were organized through
power point presentation in the different categories as languages , Social Studies/ Economics/
Commerce/ math/ Science/ Music/ Fine Arts/ Home science/ Physical Education.
The prizes at the valedictory function were given away by Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Gulati Sharma,
Additional Director, PSCST. She congratulated the winners and all the participants of various
competitions.
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS WEEK (7-14 December 2009)
Human Rights week was celebrated from 7th to 14th December, 2009 at Rayat &Bahra College of
Education, Sahauran under guidance of Lecturer Mr. Surinder Singh & Mr. Shashi Kumar.
Various activities were held throughout the week to mark the awareness and propagation of human
rights. Students made attractive as well as useful charts, slogans posters based in human rights issue and
display them in college campus.
On 9th December, Mr. P.S.Grewal, advocate from Punjab and Haryana high court
was cordially invited to deliver guest lecture on awareness on human rights.
On 14th December, a special assembly was conducted Mr.R.S. Kang, Principal of Khalsa
senior secondary school, Kurali was the chief guest on this occasion. Various cultural activities like
shabad, song, dances, speeches on right to education, Role of NHRC for the protection of Human rights
were conducted on the stage. Mr. Kang sensitized the students with the Human Rights as Female
Foeticide, Women rights and teacher exploitation. Dr.(Mrs.) Indu Rihani, Principal, RBCE, admired the
efforts made by the students in celebrating Human rights week and advised all to implement the
whole initiative practically in ones' own life.
RABOSA (25December 2009)
Meeting of RABOSA was organized on 25th December, 2009 in RBCE, Mohali. After a warm welcome
by Dr. (Mrs) Indu Rihani, Principal, the old students of different session interacting with each other. They
were acquainted with the new additions in the institution. As Technology Enabled Teaching- Change in
infrastructure, e-library, interactive board, CCTV, resource rooms, Team Based program- work in groups,
Add on Courses and above all paradigm shift from teaching to learning. The introduction was followed
by ghazal, group dance, skit, poems. The program was concluded by sharing their memorable
experiences during the course.
LOHRI CELEBRATIONS (14 January 2010)
The students of B.Ed. celebrated Lohri with fill vigor by dancing to the beats of folk drum and DJ. The
Gidha was performed by the prospective teachers. Some foreign dignitaries along with Sh. Gurvinder
Singh Bahra, Sh. Rayat and Dr.(Mrs.)Indu Rihani, Principal also graced the occasion.
CELEBRATION OF REPUBLIC DAY (26 January 2010)
Our 48 students of B.Ed participated in Gidha on 26th January, 2010. Republic Day celebration at
Govt. College, Mohali. We were also honored by Chief-Guest Mrs. Luxmi Kanta Chawla ‘Health Minister’
in Punjab Govt, for this Performance. Mrs. Amritpal Kaur & Mrs. Sharnjeet Kaur were Teacher in Charge
of this activity.
NATIONAL INTEGRATION WEEK
Morning Assembly was organised on the theme ‘National Integration’ by Tutorial group 2 and 5 on
8th February,2010 under the guidance of Mrs. Parul and Mrs.Manmeet.
FACULTY INDUCTION PROGRAM (14-15 January 2010)
Faculty Induction Program was organized for the faculty of Mohali and Hosiharpur College of
Education in RBCE, Mohali on14th and 15th January, 2010 by the expert. Ms. Sona Jones from Hero Mind
mine. She emphasized the faculty to be effective communicators. They should equip themselves for the
21st Century learners. Today’s visionaries will be tomorrow’s leaders. Sometimes stress gives us impetus
to work and grow.She acquainted the faculty with the Communication Approach-What the person is
talking? How the person is talking? Communication is a two way process.
WORKSHOP ON HOTS (April 2010)
The workshop on Higher Order Thinking Skills was organised for the faculty members in 6th, 8th,10th,
16 and 17th April, 2010. The faculty members were acquainted with the the material that can be used
to teach the school students by activity method as well as using their higher order thinking skills. The
teacher educators further sensitized the prospective teachers to apply the available material during
their teaching practice in the schools.

SEVEN DAY NSS CAMP (18-24 December 2009)
Seven Day NSS camp was organized by Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Sahauran in the village
Sahauran. 176 volunteers along with teacher-in-charges Mr. Deputy Raj and Mrs. Supreet, lecturers
attended the camp. The camp was inaugurated with full zeal and enthusiasm. The camp revolved
around the themes like Health, Public Sanitation and personal Hygiene.
Day 1, 18 December 2009
Inaugural Function
The camp was inaugurated with the lightning of Deepshikha by the Guest of Honour Mrs. Neena
Singh, active Social Worker of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and trustee of NGO Bharat Prakash Foundation. Mrs.
Neena Singh advised of Rayat & Bahra College of Education for ‘volunteering’ and ‘giving back’ to
society.
Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Rihani Principal, RBCE presented a floral welcome to Mrs. Neena Singh, S. Karnail
Singh (Sarpanch of Sahauran Village), S. Kirpal Singh (Ex-Sarpanch of Sahauran Village) and S. Balwinder
Singh (Social worker of the village Gharuan).
The current issue of Swine Flu was discussed and the views on Gender Equity were shared with the
audience. The prospective teachers were acquainted with the 10 objectives and motto of NSS. The
poems were recited, solo and group dances on Punjabi folk were also included for providing colourful
touch to the function. A play on AIDS was also presented by the volunteers. The program concluded
with the National Anthem.

Valedictory Function
Valedictory function was held in Dharamshala of village Sahauran. S. Satwinder Singh, Youth
Congress Leader and a famous social worker was the Chief Guest and S. Inderpal Singh, Youth Congress
Leader, Kurali, S. Kirpal Singh, former sarpanch, village Sahauran,S. Balwinder Singh, social worker and
Dr. Mrs. Indu Rihani, Principal, Rayat & Bahra College of Education, Sahauran, Mohali also graced the
occasion.
ZONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL (21-23October 2009)
In all 48 students participated in Zonal Youth Festival held from 21st to 23rd October, 2009 held at
Rayat and Bahra College of Law, Mohali. Our students participated in 21 items out of 30 and won 13
prizes in various items.
PUNJABI VIRSA (18 February 2010)
Morning Assembly was organised on the theme ‘Punjabi Virsa’ by Tutorial group 4,10 and 15 on 18th
February, 2010 under the guidance of Mrs. Amritpal and Mrs. Baljeet.
INTER COLLEGE COMPETITIONS (25 March 2010)
Inter College Competitions were organised by RBCE, Mohali on 25th March, 2010 on the diverse
Current themes of HIV/AIDS & Gender equality. Dr. Manjit Singh, Dean College Development Council,
Punjabi University Patiala was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Dr. Neelam Gulati Sharma, Additional Director, PSCST was the guest of honour in the function. She
commended the contribution of RBCE on HIV/AIDS Awareness and gender equity for ignorant people.
The various Competitions included Literary items -Quiz and Power Point Presentation, Fine Arts
items –poster making, Slogan writing , College making ,T-Shirt painting and Theatre items –Skit.
The prizes at the valedictory were given away by our worthy Chief Guest Dr. Paramvir Singh,
Director, NSS – Unit, Punjabi University, Patiala. He congratulated the winners & all the participants of
various Competitions. He appreciated the pro active effects of RBCE in spreading awareness about AIDS
leading to an AIDS Free Society and gender equity.
Thanking the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, Dr. (Mrs.)Indu Rihani ,Principal ,RBCE, Mohali
reiterated the role of teachers in sensitizing the students & Society at large.

INTER ZONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL (16 -17 March 2010)
Rayat &Bahra College of Education, Mohali organized Inter Zonal Youth Festival on 16-17th March,
2010 in association with self-financed Colleges of Education, affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala.
Dr.M.S.Mann, Prof. & Head SGTB National Integration chair, Punjabi University, Patiala was the Chief
Guest in the inaugural function on March 16, 2010. The honourable guests present at the function were
S. Nirmal Singh Rayat. S. Gurwinder Singh Bahra, Prof. Keshav Sharma.Prof K.K Uppal Dr. (Mrs) Satinder
Dhillon and Dr. (Mrs) Indu Rihani and 10 Principals from various educational colleges. There were 37
events, 100 teachers, 30 teams, 25 judges and 462 participants from 40 colleges present in the function.

ACTIVITIES ORGANISED AT CAMPUS LEVEL
Interaction with Mr. Leo Rothenberg (24 January 2010)
Mr. Leo Rothenberg associate Vice president from University of waterloo, Ontario, Canada along
with Madam Karuna Came all the way from Canada on 24th January, 2010, in Rayat - Bahra Group of
Institutes, to inspire the students for admission and exchange program in their university which
specification deals with the engineering course. University of Waterloo has its extension centre in Dubai
where there are twenty students doing their degree in engineering.
Rayat & Bahra Group of Institutes, Sahauran had pride to entertain the guest of Honour Mr. Leo
Rothenberg and Madam Karuna. In the auditorium where Mr. Leo Rothenberg and Madam Karuna
introduced themselves and gave brief introduction about their University followed by queries from the
aspired students. Mr. Maan who was with them told the students to visit his office in Sector-70, Mohali
to get their assessment done where they can also have the privileged to chat with Mr. Leo Rothenberg
and Madam Karuna about their carrier options in the University of Waterloo, Canada.
CHANDIGARH MARATHON (31 January 2010)
Five students along with Mrs. Sharnjeet Kaur, lecturer, RBCE, Mohali, visited Rock Garden on 31st
January, 2010. at 1 pm organised by Chandigarh Administration. The purpose of Chandigarh Marathon
was to cheer up Mr. Yashvardhan Saboo, who is associated with an NGO named Bharat Parkash
Foundation. These NGO’s work for the upliftment of underprivileged girls.
INTERNATIONAL FILM SHOOTING (21February 2010)
There was a film being shouted in the Rayat & Bahra Group of Institutes on 21st February, 2010 in
which the students were shown conducting various activities at the NSS Camp. The Students of Rayat &
Bahra College of Education went to village-Sahauran for the NSS Camp, educated the children on AIDS
awareness, gave the students Carrier Counselling, taught the children to read and write and taught the
village women various methods of making handicrafts. All these activities were shouted for the
international educational film. Later on in the college, there was an activity inducted in the Higher Order
Thinking Skills Room regarding child-centred education in which game was demonstrated to promote
alertness among children. These activities were shot by the film makers for their educational film of
Rayat & Bahra Group of Institutes.
CHANDIKRIT (21 February 2010)
About 30 Students of RBCE participated at Rayat and Bahra Group level on 21st February, 2010 in the
cultural function organized by Department of Industries, U.T. Chandigarh, at Parade Ground Sector17, Chandigarh. They presented the items related to ‘Punjabi Virsa’ and acquainted the audience
with different items of Punjabi Culture.

CONVOCATION (19 May 2010)
Rayat & Bahra College of Education , Sahauran (Tehsil Kharar) District Mohali held its 2nd
Annual Convocation of session 2008-09 on 19th May, 2010 in the Sahauran Campus. S. Heera Singh
Gabaria. Minister, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Archives & Museums, Punjab Government graced
the occasion as the honorable Chief Guest. He was accompanied by S. Jaswant Singh Bhullar,
Pradhan, Shiromani Akali Dal, Mohali.
As the academic procession reached the auditorium, the programme began with the
welcome song which was followed by Shabad Gayan. After the declaration of the Convocation open
by the Principal, Rayat-Bahra College of Education, Dr.( Mrs.) Indu Rihani welcomed the dignitaries
and presented the Annual Report of the Institute highlighting the academic, cultural and cocurricular achievements of students. 225 students of Rayat & Bahra College of Education were
privileged to receive the degrees of Bachelor of Education and Masters of Education from the
august hands of the most renowned leader.
In the session 2008-09, 9394 students appeared in the examination of Punjabi University,
Patiala and 7641 passed in which Shruti Marwaha grabbed 12th position in the University. Our
worthy Chief Guest awarded prizes to the students of previous session for their academic
achievements - B.Ed. students - Shruti Marwaha - 1st in college and 12th in the University,
Simranjeet Kaur - 2nd and Varlin Sandhu-3rd and M.Ed. students – Sonu Bala Dhiman - 1st,,Mandeep
Kaur - 2nd and Baijeet Kaur -3rd in college. After receiving the degrees the students took the pledge
to serve their profession with full dedication.
S. Heera Singh Gabaria, our worthy Chief Guest awarded academic prizes to the students
achieving meritorious positions and behoved that teachers must transcend social & geographical
barriers to establish themselves on the global level. In the end, he donated rupees two lakhs to
Rayat-Bahra Group of Institutes.
Mrs. Gaganjot Kaur thanked Prof. C.M. Bahl, Managing Director,RBGI, Prof. Keshav Sharma,
Campus Director , various dignitaries, Principals of various colleges of Education; all the directors
from the Institutes, faculty members of the institute and the students for gracing the function with
their benign presence.
