Regarding the profession, I recently returned from the General Audit Management (GAM) Conference in Las Vegas – the IIA’s flagship event for Chief Audit Executives and audit management. With over 1,000 attendees, I had the privilege to network with people in my industry as well as bring back several great ideas. Some of my key takeaways were: 1) Ask yourself if your customers (the auditees) couple of “wins” for your company (i.e. cost savings identified, etc.) first. 2) Pursue test 100% of the population instead of using a sample approach. 3) Challenge the timing at which you perform the risk assessments that drive your audit plan.
