Music Program / Will there be a spring concert or show?

The question one of our parents had was if there were plans to bring back a
specialized music teacher.

The response was as follows:
 It may come back in full at some point
 There is a lot happening in the school with regards to music. Such as bucket
drumming, recorders, etc.
 Many of the classroom teachers have a background in music and are teaching
their own students
 There will be no musical this year
 Looking at the possibility of having an Art Show / Music Show
 Staff tried to start up a band, ukelele, glee club – students came for a few
weeks then didn’t want to do it anymore
4.
Review of the board's policy on supervision for ski trips

CEPS follows the OPHEA guidelines provided by the Board for school trips and
sports

This site was used to determine what was outlined and required for the curling trip

For skiing the OPHEA guideline states that for every 12 students you require 1
skiing teacher

Parents or ski patrol do not count in the 12:1 ratio

Skiing may be brought back. It needs to be looked at each year to see if we meet
the guidelines.

Cost of skiing – not all families can afford

Lots of other activities occurring in place of skiing. Curling, skating, and the
teachers are also looking at the possiblity of snowshoeing (on school property) for
the students

Lego / Robotics Club

CESCA had funded lego and robotics equipment when Mr. Dodson was the vice
principal and would like to know what happened with the equipment and the
possibility of a Robotics club

Mrs. Denley will look into where the equipment is in the school

Mrs. Campbell has a Lego League for her class where they are learning about
pulleys and gears

Funding for robotics can be very pricey

Program is usually a competition which invloves problem solving and teamwork

At this point in time robotics does not fit into the curriculum
Skating Days – In order to give all students the ability to participate can old skates be
brought in for them to use?

Yes. For students that would like to skate but do not own skates, other parents
can provide skates for them to use either as a loaner pair or to keep.

Teachers commented that some of the kids who went skating, did not want to
skate and sat on the bench rather than participating.

Look at doing a skate swap in the fall.
Homework

Parents asked if there was a framework for standardized homework for all grade
levels
 There is nothing board regulated
