How to search Emerald Full text

Emerald Provides two search facilities,

Quick Search and Advanced Search

…Quick Search :

1.

In the top “Search for…” box simply enter a word or phrase.

2.

Then select the tick boxes to define if you would like to search for a complete phrase, an exact

match or word using truncation.

(Truncation finds variations on word endings. E.g

If you entered the stem legislate and check the truncation box, the database would find legislate,

legislature, legislation etc.)

3.

Choose what to search against: keywords,

company name, journal titles and abstracts of every article within Emerald Full text.

4.

You may limit your search to only the journals which your institution has access to, by checking

Search only my subscribed journals. radio button.

5.

If you wish you can also specify how your search results are listed. They may be sorted by

relevancy, or publication date.

6.

Press Go to search the database.

...Advanced

Search

Advanced search incorporates all of the functionality of the Quick Search and makes Boolean searching

(And, Or, Not) easier.

In addition you may define your search further using some of the features that make Emerald unique, such as content indicators for readability, originality, practical implications and theoretical implication. You also have the option to limit the search by the style of the article and/or the year of publication.

There is also an option to hand pick which journals you would like to search from a list of Emerald journals.

Once you have performed your search, you have the option to add the results to your Marked List, which you can display, print-out, or e-mail to a colleague.

…Browsing

Emerald Fulltext can be browsed in a number of ways by clicking on the relevant radio button on the

Browse screen. The various options are described below.

Browsing Journals by:

Journal title – returns a listing of Emerald journals, including those that are archive only.

L.C. classification – displays journals based on their

Library of Congress Classification.

Subject – displays journals within Emerald’s own subject categories.

Browsing Articles by:

Keyword allows you to browse on article keywords, which are selected by the author and are representative of its scope and coverage.

Article Title – this is the best option if you know the title of an article, or you need to find articles whose title contains a specific word or phrase.

Author – browse all articles contributed by a specific author.

Articles can then be identified by searching the database for a given term or alternately, by clicking on the initial letter for articles and journals in the A-

Z list.
