GROWING SUCCESS– PROGRESS REPORT
NOVEMBER 2012
Plowman’s Park will be sending home the Progress Report this year on November 9, 2012. Request for interview
forms will go home on Monday, November 5. On this form parents will be able to indicate a preferred interview time.
Interviews will be held on the evening of Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16 during the day. We
would like to ensure that parents with more than one child at the school have interview times scheduled close together.
As part of the ‘Growing Success’ policy document the Progress Report will not contain grades. Teachers will indicate
if a student is “progressing well”, “progressing very well” or “progressing with difficulty” in subject areas. In
February and June parents will receive Term Report Cards with grades. Summary of progress reports for Kindergarten
students will be sent home twice a year in January and June.

TERRY FOX WALK
Our Terry Fox Run/Walk took place on Friday September 28, 2012. Plowman’s Park raised $544.00 for this very
worthy cause.
GROW PROGRAM
At Plowman's Park we are Growing in our ability to display the Peel Character traits of being caring, honest,
respectful, cooperative, responsible and inclusive. Our students in Grades 1 to 6 participated in a fun filled interactive
presentation on October 25 focusing on developing their social skills and leadership skills..
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Congratulations to the following people on their School Council appointments:
Co – Chairs: Emily Moore
Nancy Samborsky
Secretary:
Becky Rusk
Treasurer: Nasir Naqvi
The School Council would like to thank all the families of Plowman’s Park who have been driving slowly and
cautiously while using the Kiss ‘N Ride and on the surrounding streets of our school. Our next meeting is Wednesday
November 14th at 6:30 in the library.
DAFFODIL GARDEN
On October 9th and 10th Plowman’s students and staff planted 400 daffodil bulbs in the gardens at
the front of our school. Upon completion, each participant received a daffodil pin.
Then volunteers covered the gardens with soil to ensure our bulbs sleep well during the upcoming
winter. We are all looking forward to seeing what spring will bring !
Many thanks to the volunteers that made it possible - Mrs. Abrams, Mrs. Duggal, Mrs. Eddy, Mrs. Hoffinger, Mrs.
McGarroch, Mrs. Michez, Mrs. Monk, Mrs. Moon, Mrs. Rahman, Mrs. Rusk and Mrs. Stewart. Thanks also to the
Home Depot for supplying the soil and the School Council for purchasing the bulbs from the Canadian Cancer Society.
NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY
It was wonderful to see so many student shoppers at the Scholastic Book Fair. With the funds raised we were able to
take advantage of CRABTREE's one-day 50 % off sale and purchase twice as many non-fiction books to add to our
collection!
Please help your child return their library books on time. You may wish to make MONDAYS their BOOK RETURN
DAY. Students visit the library at least three times per week to exchange their books so it is important that these books
are not overdue which puts a BLOCK on their account. If this happens, you will receive a note home to advise you that
a book is overdue. The loan period is two weeks. Books may be returned earlier.
NEWS FROM MRS. CATALANO IN THE GYM
Drop-in indoor soccer has started for Grades 3 to 6 in the gym at lunch times. Each day students should listen to the
announcements to see if their Grade level is invited to the gym at lunch to play with their friends and classmates.
T-shirts and Gym bags continue to be available from Mrs. Catalano, $5 for a gym bag and $10 for a T-shirt.
Students in Grades 1-6 have just completed their first Health Unit on Healthy Eating and Nutrition. All students are
encouraged to apply this new knowledge and bring healthy snacks and lunches to school on a daily basis.
SKATING
On Wednesday October 24th the permission form for skating went home and all Plowman’s Park students (Grades 16) are encouraged to participate and attend the skating program coming up in November and December. Plowman's
Park will be skating on Friday, November 9, Friday, November 23, and Friday, December 7th. Skating is a great
family physical activity that can be enjoyed in the winter months to keep families fit and active! Students who are
beginners will have a designated area to practice until they become confident with their abilities. It is strongly
encouraged that all students participate in this activity as it is a great way to be active, promote school spirit and have
fun! Skates will be available to rent through the school and this information was sent home with the permission form.
You can also purchase skates for your child from places such as Canadian Tire, Play it Again Sports etc. Parents who
are interested in volunteering are welcome to join us at the rink.

FUN LITERACY-RICH ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH YOUR FAMILY
Next time you are in the supermarket, play the alphabet game. Look for each letter of the alphabet on a label or
sign in the store. This game also works when you are driving. Try to find all of the letters of the alphabet on
licence plates or road signs .
Play the game I Spy. Look for things that start with specific letters. Say for example, “I spy something that
starts with the letter, T” See if the person/people you are playing with can guess what you are spying in three
tries or less
How many beats are in the names of the people in your family. Say their name and clap once for each beat. For
the name Samuel you will clap 3 time, Sam-u-el.
