Applied Earth Science Mrs. Baldwin The Applied Earth Science course is a comprehensive, activity-based program that is concerned with understanding the processes involved in the various branches of earth science. Emphasis will be placed upon recognizing change, student inquiry, and involvement in science and technological advancements. Classroom rules ~ Be Prepared. Be Accountable. Be Respectful. All discipline and behavior policies are outlined in your student handbook, which will be enforced in this classroom. Be on time when the bell rings, with all classroom materials and in your seat. If you are tardy, you must have a valid pass from a teacher or the office. Excessive tardiness will result in a flex assignment. Lavatory and Locker Privileges Locker passes will not be granted. You will be able to leave only if you have a valid presigned pass or called by the office. Lavatory requests will only be granted upon request. You must sign out and take the pass provided. Do not interrupt a class discussion to ask to go the lavatory! Grading Procedures Tests will be announced about one week prior. Quizzes will be announced, covering material from class and homework. Homework will be assigned ranging from 10 to 20 points. Notebook A notebook is highly suggested! A three ring binder will help you quite a bit in this class; you can store all your notes and handouts in one place for easy access. Grades / Missed Assignments Printout of grades and missing assignments will be printed out weekly and posted by student id. All grades will be made available upon request. It is your responsibility to make up any missed assignments; thus you must see me to schedule a flex period. If you are suspended for any reason, it is your responsibility to get your assignments before you leave for suspension. All work is to be made up during your suspension period and will be due the day you return. Any work received after the day you return will result in a 0. Laboratory Safety and Breakage Students are supplied with equipment to conduct laboratory activities. The equipment is to be used properly and returned in clean and original condition. The student is responsible to follow specific safety procedures and is financially responsible for broken or damaged equipment. The student will be given specific instructions for each lab and will be required to sign a safety agreement. Safety violations, including improper use of safety equipment (shower, eyewash, etc.) will result in removal from class and forfeiture of the opportunity to complete the lab assignment. Staff strictly supervises student use of the chemicals/equipment; students are not permitted to work alone. All chemicals are properly stored in secure areas; students are not permitted in the chemical storage areas at any time.
