About Me: Welcome to Mrs. Cerullo’s math class. This is my 14 th year teaching in the Wichita School
District. I taught math at Hadley Middle School for six years. Before that, I taught both 4 th and 5 th grades at Bryant Core Knowledge Magnet. I received my bachelor’s from Emporia State University and my master’s from Baker University. This is now my second year at Jardine STEM Middle School.
I enjoy mathematics and hope that my love of math helps students better understand and maybe even learn to enjoy math.
Class Rules: My rules are simple: You are here to receive an education, and I am here to teach. No one is allowed to take away anyone’s education. Disrupting the learning process will not be tolerated. The choices you make determine the rewards or consequences you receive.
Rules:
Be RESPECTFUL: Kindness
Respect others and the classroom
Be RESPONSIBLE: Be in assigned seat when the bell rings
Have necessary supplies including assignments
Raise your hand to speak or to get out of your seat
Passes out of class will be for emergencies only
Be HONEST:
Be IN CONTROL:
Remember: I believe in you
I trust in you
Ask if you don’t understand something
Focus on your performance and do your own work
Be quiet when asked
Set a good example
Participate in class activities and discussions
I know you can
You are worth it
Think for yourself
Don’t be manipulated
Topics to be taught this year:
Unit 1: Rational and irrational numbers
Unit 2:
Unit 3:
Exponents and scientific notation
Solving linear equations
Unit 4:
Unit 5:
Unit 6:
Unit 7:
Unit 8:
Geometry Applications with Problem-Solving (Circles {area & circumference}, Volume and Surface
Area of 3D Shapes, Pythagorean Theorem)
Butterflies, Pinwheels and Wallpaper – Connected Mathematics unit (Transformations)
Functions – Linear and non-linear
Systems of linear equations
Patterns of association in bivariate data
Assignments and grades:
All assignments are due the following school day, unless otherwise stated.
90% of the math grade is earned from tests and quizzes, which will be given in class.
The remaining 10% of the points will be earned from homework assignments, notes, and bellwork.
Extra credit points will be made available upon teacher’s discretion.
Current grades can be found on both Student VUE and Parent VUE websites. This will be updated weekly.
Grading Scale:
90 – 100% = A
80 – 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
0 - 59% = F
Missed work procedure:
Since the majority of a student’s grade is based on quizzes and tests, these must be made up if a student is absent. o This can be done either at lunch or after school.
Contact the office if the student will be absent for several days so that assignments can be collected for pickup through the office.
I believe that this is going to be a great year!
