Sixth Form Induction – Wilmington Grammar SUBJECT Chemistry In this subject you will be expected to: Have an interest in chemistry and appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how it contributes to the success of the economy and society. Have an enquiring mind and be committed to study, meeting deadlines promptly. Have good problem solving skills. Have excellent knowledge of science and mathematics. You will need to have an interest in: The role of Chemistry in the world around us, including: making the products we use on a daily basis; developing medicines; keeping our food and water supplies safe and protecting our natural environment and resources. Independent learning in this subject requires 5hrs of independent study to include: Material that reinforces classroom knowledge, practical write-ups, occasional pre-learning. You should also read newspapers and magazines such as Chemistry World, New Scientist and other publications. Exams will include assessment of practical skills as well as theory. A Practical Endorsement is reported separately and is a holistic assessment of your practical skills throughout the course. The endorsement is Pass/Fail.
