Star-studded Film Composer Documentary Launches On Indiegogo
James Cameron, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore headline first definitive
documentary on Hollywood’s most memorable tunes
FOR RELEASE DECEMBER 7
LOS ANGELES — Star Wars, James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean. They're movie themes
beloved by people around the world — and the subject of a new documentary launching on Indiegogo Dec. 7
that explores why these tunes stick in our heads.
Featured in Mashable, Billboard, Indiewire and more, SCORE: A Film Music Documentary has evolved
into the most comprehensive documentary ever assembled about 'A'-list film composers and the music they
create.
The feature-length documentary will guide viewers through the creative processes of some of the
world’s greatest musicians as they create some of the world’s most emotionally expressive music and highlight
an cutting-edge industry with as many highs and lows as the winding melodies we’ve come to love.
"Film music used to be described just as background music," says composer Hans Zimmer, who's
written more than 130 film scores, including those for The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The
Dark Knight and Inception. "Now ... we're rock and roll."
SCORE promises viewers an inside glimpse into the genius of the world’s greatest composers,
including Zimmer, Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland), Howard Shore (Lord of the
Rings, The Hobbit, The Departed), Trent Reznor (The Social Network, Gone Girl), Randy Newman (Toy Story,
Monsters Inc.), John Powell (the Bourne trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek), Bear McCreary (Battlestar
Galactica, Agents of SHIELD, The Walking Dead), John Debney (Passion of the Christ, Star Trek: The Next
Generation), and many more. The film also features a tribute to the late James Horner, who wrote the most
commercially successful film soundtrack of all time for James Cameron's Titanic.
"The score is the heart and soul of the film," says director James Cameron.
Those who donate to the film on Indiegogo can pre-order the film on digital download or DVD/Blu-ray
(which will release in spring), a personal thank-you in the film's credits, and score rare autographed collectibles.
Among the rewards for larger backers are official credits as a co-producer or executive producer on the film
and the opportunity to attend the premiere in Los Angeles.
"We've unearthed a powerful, sensory journey through the world's most recognizable music genre,"
says SCORE's director Matt Schrader. "You'll be blown away by how many tunes you never knew you knew."
Funds raised allow the filmmakers to work with Hollywood-caliber editors, color graders and sound
mixers to give the film a final polish and obtain the remaining permits and licenses needed.
In 14 months of filming, the filmmakers have collected more than 300 hours of behind-the-scenes
footage and interviews with iconic composers and filmmakers — now one of the largest treasure troves of film
music history in the world.
A bonus 2-disc set entitled "SCORE: The Interviews" is also available exclusively to Indiegogo
backers, in addition to a limited-edition production crew T-shirt and score poster.
The public can watch the official trailer for SCORE: A Film Music Documentary until January 11
at score-movie.com or indiegogo.com/projects/score-a-film-music-documentary.
