Project Summary: Continue development of community college island in 2nd Life, adding
demonstration projects identified by member colleges, training new users, and disseminating
information about uses of 2nd Life for instructional and student service delivery. Specifically, the project
will train up to 50 new users, and create and support at least 6 new demonstration projects. Projects
waiting to be supported include: Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education (OCNE) simulation
demonstration; Virtual Botany field trip; virtual student life; statewide virtual reference librarian. The
project coordinator will work with community college faculty and staff to create the island structures
and environments for projects, train the participants, publicize and disseminate information across the
state and at national forums. The coordinator will work with representatives of the 17 community
colleges to coordinate all island activities and policies.

 Coordinate use of island
 Train 50 faculty and staff from community colleges to use the island in 2nd Life
 Identify and coordinate creation of 6 new educational demonstration projects
 Hire and supervise work of 2nd Life designers and creators as needed by projects
 Coordinate meetings of college representatives to Island governing council\
 Develop and present presentations describing work and outcomes
 Coordinate budget including payment of island rent
