Visit our website at http://www.ozeki.hu Send an e-mail to sms@ozeki.hu If you want to rerun Setup after having quit the installation before it was completed, follow the installation steps normally as if you were installing the program for the first time. First installation steps Make sure your GSM device is switched on. Connect you phone to the standard RS-232 serial port of your computer by using the connection cable. If you use infra red connection activate the IR port on your computer and on your phone and make sure the phone and the computer can communicate. 3. Exit all Windows programs. 4. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. 5. Click the Windows START button. 6. Select the Run command. The Run dialog box appears on the screen. Type in the following command line: D:\setup In the above command line, "D:\" is the CD-ROM drive Click OK or press Enter. Wait while the system initializes Setup. 7. The Welcome window of the Setup is then displayed. 8. Click Next to continue with Setup. 1. 2. Setting up the GSM device In order for the SMS Engine to work properly the following settings should be made on the mobile phone prior to installation: - All the PIN codes and security locks should be switched off - The voice and data calls should be redirected to another phone number - Delete all SMS messages stored in the phone - The SMS Service Center should be set When all these settings are done, you should test your GSM device by sending and receiving SMS messages manually. Finding the Serial Port The physical serial ports in the system are called COM1, COM2, etc. The Ozeki SMS Engine communicates with the phones through one of these ports. If you attach your phone to the computer via cable it is obvious which port the phone is connected to. If the phone is connected through an infra red (IR) port, then you should find out which traditional serial port is replaced by the IR port. This will be COM3, COM4 or one of the other COM ports. © 2002-2004 Ozeki Informatics Ltd. All rights reserve. 5. Visit our website at http://www.ozeki.hu Send an e-mail to sms@ozeki.hu Sometimes the mobile device can be used through a different serial port, then the physical serial port it is connected to. For example the Nokia Data suite driver creates a virtual COM port and this virtual port should be specified for the connection in the Ozeki SMS Engine. (If you connect a Nokia 6110 phone to the computer's COM2 serial port with the Nokia Data suite package, you should set up the Ozeki SMS Engine to use COM3 or COM4 or COM5.) In this case you can find the COM port in the Control Panel's System icon (Figure 1.) Figure 1. Installing the application The Ozeki SMS Engine installation is similar to any Windows applications. You need to start Setup.exe, and follow the on-screen instructions. When the installation completes, a short cut can be found in the Windows start menu. Use this short cut to start the application. Configuring the application If the application is running, an icon appears on the left side of the taskbar (Figure 2.). When you click on this icon, the SMS Engine program will appear on the screen. © 2002-2004 Ozeki Informatics Ltd. All rights reserve. 6. Visit our website at http://www.ozeki.hu Send an e-mail to sms@ozeki.hu Figure 2. The SMS Engine’s menu shows up with several options. The GSM device configuration form can access from the Menu/Server/GSM Device1 Configuration. In the GSM Device1 Configuration form, click on the GSM Device tab, then select the type of GSM phone you have attached to the serial port of your computer. After this is done, specify the serial port in the roll down window. This phone number is used as the outgoing address in your SMS messages. In the second part of the form the SMS operator name can be specified when you fill in the text box. One of the most important is the phone settings part. Enter the telephone number of the phone attached to the computer. The number will appear on the right corner of the projected screen and the users can send SMS messages for this number if they want to see their messages on the SMS Wall. Important: every phone number should be entered in international format e.g.: +36209937723 © 2002-2004 Ozeki Informatics Ltd. All rights reserve. 7. Visit our website at http://www.ozeki.hu Send an e-mail to sms@ozeki.hu When this is done, don't forget to select your SMS Service Center phone number. The number should also be entered in international format. The Service Center address is provided by your GSM service provider. If you don’t know this number, check it in the Appendix B. If your number is not indicated on the list, please ask the number from your operator. For example, in Hungary you would select one of these numbers: T-Mobile Pannon GSM Vodafone +36309888000 +36209300099 +36709996500 Saving phone numbers automatically to the address book Easy to save automatically the phone numbers of the incoming messages to the address book. Before you assign, make sure that the message group, in which you want to save the phone numbers, exists. If it doesn’t you should create it. Click on the Numbers button. It opens the Address book window where you can start creating New Group. Press the New Group button or choose the File /New Group menu item. A new window opens where you can specify the name of the group in the text box (Figure 5). © 2002-2004 Ozeki Informatics Ltd. All rights reserve. 8. This means, that the SMS Engine cannot open the serial port to communicate with the GSM device. By performing the test described bellow, you can find out whether the communication between your PC and your Mobile phone is working or not. Before you perform the test, you can read through the following tips: Connecting to the GSM phone Make sure the phone is connected to the PC Make sure the phone is switched on In case of Infra Red connection, turn on the IR port on your PC In case of Infra Red connection, turn on the IR port on your Phone Make sure the serial port is functioning (you can check this by performing the test described below) Make sure you use the correct virtual COM port, if you use Nokia Datasuite or Nokia Cardphone (note: the virtual COM port is different from the physical COM port your phone is connected to) Select the appropriate phone driver in the SMS Engine GSM Device1 Configuration form Make sure the port settings are correct in the SMS Engine GSM Device1 Configuration form Turn off the PIN code, which protects the device Turn off the PIN code, which protects the SIM Make sure that no other application is using the port (e.g. Hyper Terminal and the Ozeki SMS Engine cannot operate at the same time) © 2002-2004 Ozeki Informatics Ltd. Visit our website at http://www.ozeki.hu Send an e-mail to sms@ozeki.hu Testing the connection Start Hyper Terminal (You can find it in the following menu: Start menu / Programs / Accessories / Communications) When the connection description window pops up, enter a name for the connection (e.g.: Ozeki test) On the "Connect to" form select "Direct to COM1" to make direct connection to the phone that is attached to port COM1. If your phone is attached to a different port you should choose that port instead of COM1. If you use Nokia Datasuite, select the virtual communication port. If you use Infra Red communication, find out the COM port number the IR port is using. In the "COM1 Properties" window adjust port communication properties. For most of the time 9600 bits per second connection with (8, None, 1, Hardware) parameters will be ok. For Siemens phones use 19200 bits per second. After you click on OK, Hyper Terminal opens a connection to your device Enter AT and hit enter. If the modem replies with an OK message, it means the connection is working. Enter AT+CMGF=0. If the modem replies with an OK, your device is capable of sending SMS messages. If AT+CMGF=0 results in an error message, you might have to turn off the PIN code protection of your SIM card or your phone RUN-TIME ERRORS Error condition: The SMS Server stops working after a while.
