COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 Discuss the role of information systems in business, as well as the need for
and use of information systems in making decisions.
 Describe the characteristics of good information.
 Identify the software and hardware components of an information system and
know their functions and basic features.
 Define basic telecommunications terminology and describe the nature of
network processing.
 Identify the role of the end user in the development of information systems.
 Define e-commerce and explain the effect of e-commerce on market
efficiency.
 Describe the need for business intelligence systems.
 Use information systems to solve problems accurately and efficiently with
common end user application software.
 List the sources of security threats and setup essential security features on an
end user computer to protect against these threats.
 Identify all majors within the College of Business and understand the impact
of information systems on each of those majors.
 Identify career choices related to the field of information systems and have an
opportunity to meet Information Systems professionals.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

ACIS 1504 Introduction to Business Information Systems textbook
Microsoft Office Professional 2013 software
i-Clicker 2 remote control
REQUIRED COMPUTER RESOURCES:
Students will need to have access to a personal computer system, including a printer
and Internet access, which meets the minimum configuration for the Pamplin
