Decree to open sites Margaret Wise Fiji Times: Thursday, September 02, 2010 AT least one West-based resort has welcomed the newly introduced surfing decree, saying it would open up access to some of Fiji's top and previously semi-exclusive surfing sites such as Cloudbreak. Sonaisali Island Resort managing director Aaron McGrath said previously, guests could go out to world famous Cloudbreak on Saturdays only. "But with this new decree, more frequent trips to this site and several others will be offered daily," McGrath said. "This is fantastic news for Sonaisali Island Resort and more importantly, our guests. "Not only by allowing access to previously restricted sites but it will also allow more affordable travel to Fiji for surfers and their families," he said. "We are hoping with this new decree to be able to offer a more family orientated surfing package to the market." He said surf boat trips to the waves were a mere 25 minutes. These included Mini's, Cloudbreak, Tavarua Rights, Restaurants, Swimming pools, Love Shacks, Namotu Lefts, Wilkes, and Desperations. Mr McGrath said surfers from Sonaisali could access many reef passages and bays that suit surf school to the experience level. "In the same area, there is three kilometres of beach breaks so as you can see, there are lots of waves around to "share the stoke". Ian Muller of Fiji Surf is based at the resort. The top 44 surfers on the World Dream Tour rate Fiji as the Number 1 destination on tour, over Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti and other sites.
