He then decided he wanted to give stand-up a go so took a 3 month stand-up course last year and started performing at open mic nights. At first Martin didn’t enjoy performing stand-up as himself so decided to create a character who he named ‘Kevin Cruise.’ Kevin is based on a typical camp cruise ship host and Martin has built his act around things he experienced whilst working on the cruise ships. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – NO. This is why I would never go on one of those boats. Amanda – YES. Kevin, I think if you got through to the final, I don’t know if we’d need any more acts, loved you. Every so often, someone comes along who is just brilliant and I think we’ll remember you, you’re super, super talented. Amanda – YES. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – NO. Maybe when you first appeared on stage there could have been a little bit of confusion between you and Lady Gaga. And then you started singing. The singing just got worse as it went along. It was just awful, awful, awful. Furthermore, if we’ve already got Lady Gaga why do we need you? Amanda – YES. Amanda – I don’t know what that kind of style is but you danced to every section of the music and you told a story. What is it? Ashley – We call it ‘streetomedy’. It’s street and comedy together. Amanda – I think you just showed us a glimpse of the future. Simon – For me the only thing that works is whether it becomes entertaining for the person watching it. It’s genius, absolutely. Well executed, great story, clean, you were all together…great energy. Simon – I love your enthusiasm and I can tell you’ve obviously spent a heck of a long time putting this routine together, but there are a lot of very, very strong dance acts this year. Right now, I’ve seen one or two I think are stronger, so if you make it through you’re going to have to work twice as hard. Oh Kieran, I’m so proud of you and you played for your life, I know it matters to you, I can see that on your little face. Piers – YES. I have to say, I didn’t know what to think of it when it started but then it was just…genius!” Piers – YES. Some of the stuff that was going on I didn’t think was humanly possible. Outstanding. Absolutely incredible, incredible. Piers – YES. You had the whole theatre going crazy. Christopher Stone AGE: 28 FROM: North Rigton, Yorkshire JOB: Accountant TALENT: Singer BACKGROUND: When he was 15 he sang a solo for a Les Miserables medley in his school choir, when someone said he had a good voice so he started having lessons. When the audience get up and start dancing with you, you know you’re doing something right. Amanda – I loved that you did everything together. It looks so uniform and slick when it’s together. Fantastic choreography, great job, well done. Simon – I thought overall it was well done. I have a slight problem…you are being choreographed from other people which always for me makes it slightly less real. It’s got a dance school element to it. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – You’re all very cute and look good together but here is the bad news, this is 15 years out of date… maybe you did need a little bit of help, so I’m going to say……YES Amanda – YES. I got goosebumps the minute you all started singing, and I think you have a big future ahead of you. Piers – YES. I was the official biographer for Take That so I’m an expert in first stages of boyband and I think we’ve got something quiet good here Liam McNally AGE: 14 FROM: New Moston, Manchester TALENT: Singer BACKGROUND: Liam started singing when he was 10 after he auditioned for a school play and was encouraged by his music teacher (Lindsey) to take up singing lessons. Lindsey saw his potential to be a great classical singer and Liam now has weekly singing lessons with Lindsey. JUDEGES COMMENTS: Simon – I wouldn’t call you a good singer, I would call you a fantastic singer, what you’ve got is that you have fire and emotion in your eyes. I see a lot of kids up there that have practiced and practiced and are robotic. You have real warmth and it’s believable, the problem you have though Liam is you properly have what you have max for 6-9 months and it’s gonna go and that’s the problem. So you have to enjoy this and remember this moment” Amanda – Piers, what did you think? Piers – You’ve had no real training? Liam – Nope Piers – Properly too early to say this but you are a real contender to win BGT Amanda – WOW, your Mum and Dad must be so proud of you Olivia Archbold AGE: 14 FROM: Newton-le-willows, St Helens TALENT: Singer BACKGROUND: Olivia has been singing since she was 7 years old. She started singing when a teacher at her dance school got everyone to sing and dance, it was then that she and everyone else discovered she has a good voice. After school Olivia wants to go down the musical route, she would love to attend a performing arts school and be a solo musician/singer. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – YES. You’re so nervous, I can see you’re shaking, we’ve had many kids coming out taking on songs that are way way too big for them and you’ve just changed everything. You sang that so well and made it your version of the song, I’m so so impressed with you Olivia, I can’t begin to tell you. Amanda – YES. That was utterly spellbinding. Piers – YES. What I really like about you is that I don’t think you know how good you really are, you were very shy and humble and you sang utterly beautifully. Emile Harris AGE: 17 FROM: Chepstow, Wales TALENT: Singer and guitar player BACKGROUND: Emile has been playing the guitar since he was 12 and was taught by his father who was a musician. In 2006 Sean signed up with a lookalike agency in London as an impersonator for Sean Connery. Sean decided to incorporate impersonating, singing and kindling into his act. A3 NAMES: Arnold (19), Anthony (15) and Amukhelani Matsena (13) FROM: Swansea, Wales TALENT: Dance trio BACKGROUND: Arnold, Anthony and Amukhelani are brothers and have been dancing together for the last 2 years. Arnold started dancing when he was 2, Anthony has been dancing seriously for 3 years and Amukhelani has been dancing seriously for the last 6 months. When they were younger Arnold used to teach his younger brothers all of his moves which has meant they have picked up dancing very quickly. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – It started really, really well. The first minute or so was fantastic… then it ran out of steam. For an act like this to work it has to have a beginning, a middle and an end. So you’ve got natural talent, but what I don’t think you did is work out a proper routine for an audition. That’s the downside, the upside is you’re exceptionally talented, love your commitment, love your passion and I love the fact that you’re brothers as well. It makes a difference. Piers – With the right routine, you’ve got a real chance. Amanda – I just think you need a little bit more help and I think this show can give it to you. Paul Burling AGE: 41 FROM: Bristol TALENT: Impersonator BACKGROUND: Paul started to do impressions when he was at primary school and it has now become his professional career. From a young age he often made characters up and always copied voices perfectly. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – I normally cannot bear these type of acts. When I heard the story about you being thrown off the club in Kent, I was thinking you’ve got 3000 people here and I had a feeling if this went bad this could bury you. Amanda – I just think after schlepping it around holiday camps for the past 25 years, you haven’t been found and we’ve been able to find you. Piers – You are the best impressionist we’ve ever seen on Britain’s Got Talent. Kev Orkian AGE: 36 FROM: Essex TALENT: Singer/Pianist BACKGROUND: Kev first started playing the piano at the age of 4 and by 15 he had reached grade 8 piano. He is now a full time comedy pianist and performs all over the world with his act in galas, corporate functions as well as platinum cruises. Father & Son NAMES: Graham (dad) & James (son) AGE: 53 & 26 FROM: Bolton TALENT: Singers BACKGROUND: Graham learnt to sing at the Royal Northern College of Music and James studied performing Arts at Manchester Met. Graham and James have never really performed together before - only at family parties. They enjoy writing and performing comedy sketches and singing musical numbers JUDGES COMMENTS: Piers – Watching you there was like you’d waited 25 years for this moment. Simon – I’m not going to lie and say you’re the best two singers I’ve ever heard. You need an awful lot of practice. Mark James AGE: 30 FROM: Barnoldswick, Lancashire TALENT: Operatic duet with himself BACKGROUND: Mark sings a romantic duet with himself. Half of him is the male character and the other half is the female character of the song. JUDGES COMMENTS: Simon – Arguably one of the worst acts we’ve seen this year. I hated the original, I hated the song, hated the act and the fact that you’re both of them… Mark, here’s my issue, where would you go [with this]? Mark – I’m not a one trick pony. I’ve got a lot more up my sleeve. Amanda – Could you do Sonny and Cher? Mark – Sonny and Cher, Ant and Dec… Simon – That’s genuinely made up my mind for me, trust me. I’m going to say no to both of you. Piers – I think the show needs people like you. I think you are an entertainer. Two yeses from Piers and Amanda mean both sides of Mark sail through to the next round. Neil Fullard AGE: 43 FROM: Wednesbury, West Midlands JOB: Doorman TALENT: Singer BACKGROUND: Neil has always sung in the house, shower and whilst driving but is now ready to perform to a much bigger crowd and impress his fellow Doormen at the same time. JUDGES COMMENTS: Piers – Presentation 0/10, self confidence about 3 and actual singing voice one of the best I’ve heard Louis – I didn’t expect you to be this good, I want to see you in a tux Amanda – I wasn’t expecting that, you’re sexy and charming, you’re a Doorman right? Well your names down and your definitely coming in The Ruby Girls NAMES: Rai Quartley 22, Kerri De Aguiar 24, Bethany Harrison 19, Tara Young 21, Bayley Darling 23, Louise Davies 24, Vicky Tansey 22 FROM: South East London TALENT: Dance Group BACKGROUND: The Ruby Girls are a collection of trained dancers from London. They have been together for 2 and a half years and they decided that they would put the group together because they are all passionate about dancing. The Chippendoubles NAMES: David Beckham (Andy 30), Mr T (John 29), Daniel Craig (Steve 41), Simon Cowell (Andy Monk 50), Will Smith (Shad 32), Ricky Gervais (Tim 43), Gordon Ramsey (Martin 38) FROM: Various locations TALENT: Celeb lookalike troupe BACKGROUND: The Chippendoubles are a lookalike group formed especially for Britain’s Got Talent. It was Andy Harmer (David Beckham), that decided to put the group together and he approached the others. JUDGES COMMENTS: Amanda (laughing) – What did you think of that Simon? Simon – I don’t know who the last one was as he doesn’t look like anyone. This was in a way one of my favourite acts, here’s the issue, the fun was now you’ve all been revealed, what do you do in the next round? Chippendoubles – We have a few surprises up our sleeves Piers – For surprise value and entertainment value, that was genius Amanda – It was very funny, some of you are spot on Piers – The middle one especially (pointing to Simon
