Invited Speakers and Topics EU Project CyberCars Michel Parent provided an update on the cybercar project. b. Papers/Poster Session 2003 Research Papers/Poster: Cataloging and assessment of N. American market; insurance; role of technology in shared-use systems; impact analysis (U.S. and Asia); and clean mobility services (poster sessions) 2004 Call for Papers: This was a very productive year. Two sessions were devoted to carsharing/station cars at the TRB 2004 meeting. Approximately ten submittals were received. 5. Committee Business a. Subcommittee reports b. Activities or accomplishments since last meeting Station Car Retrospective Marty Bernard discussed the station car retrospective. He completed a comprehensive paper based on his over ten years of experience in this area. It can be viewed on the National Station Car website. Specifically, the benefits and dynamics associated with parking were identified as the primary issue currently facing carsharing and station car organizations. 1 TCRP B-26 Study (Carsharing: Where and How it succeeds) Overview of Studies The TCRP B-26 study on carsharing was awarded to Nelson\Nygaard. Adam Millard-Ball of Nelson/Nygaard attended the subcommittee and described the study and their perspective. It is an 18-month project consisting of focus groups and surveys in a final report due in April 2005. It includes publicprivate agencies. The project will include focus groups of current carsharing member, carsharing organization surveys and selected agencies, and member survey. The study will also include the Canadian perspective. It will emphasize where carsharing works and what models are successful. c. Future Plans and Assignments Ed Neumann and Susan Shaheen announced that Susan has been named the next chair of the parent committee (AP020—New Public Transportation Systems and Technologies). Matt Barth will be taking over as chair of the Station Car/Carsharing subcommittee. TRB Sessions for 2005: Posters and paper sessions were recommended (with an emphasis on paper sessions). The call for papers should include a general topic call for carsharing and station car papers, as this was quite effective in 2004. 6. Other Business a. Recommendations, Motions, Requests for Council or Staff Action b. Conferences, Workshops and Other Activities of Interest to Members Coordination with ACT (Associate of Commuter Transportation) Kevin Luten suggested integrating the subcommittee’s activities with ACT and recommended that carsharing could be part of the next ACT conference. Kevin will work on a draft agenda and timeline, with assistance from Marty Bernard, Dave Brook, and Susan Shaheen. This is a special note of thanks to Linda Novick for preparing minutes.
