Charlie Coggins Personality Assessment Paper Professor Flanary 10-4-2010 ESTJ: My Personality After completing the personality assessment test, it pronounced to me that I was an ESTJ. This meant I slightly or moderately expressed these traits: extravert, sensing, thinking, judging. For the most part, this is what I expected, as I fit in well with most people and I often think analytically about things and am very math oriented, therefore, my thinking is logical. Some of the articles also said that my top profession would be a management in business, which, coincidentally is what I would like to one day achieve. All I all, I was pretty much pleased with the accuracy of the results and “like what I see”. Being an extravert, I always want to meet and find new people. One article also says that I am very proficient at making impersonal decisions quickly, and standing by them. I believe this to be true as I have done this many times on many occasions. For example, when I was President of my woodworking class in high school, we had a shipment of bad wood come in for a set of bathroom and kitchen cabinets. We had a hard deadline coming up the next week, so I completely improvised with the wood we had in stock and I think the cabinets turned out nicer then what they would have been in the first place. Quick decisions are one good thing, but standing by them is also a marquee factor in running anything successfully. It also states that an extravert’s primary directive is discovering what is true and logical in the world. I definitely agree with this statement as I often find myself pondering about why things are the way they are or how to make something that’s good even better. Finally, it says that extraverts have a natural interest in goods and material objects. Well, if you’re running a company, is there a thing you should be more worried about other than making money? I didn’t think so, because money makes the world go around. One article says that ESTJ’s make good supervisors. I was not really sure what a supervisor actually did in a company until I did some research. After looking through some “mumbo-jumbo” and reading how they monitor progress, make agendas, and so on, I saw some sets of six numbers, with a dollar sign just to the left of them. At that point, nothing really mattered anymore. I told myself I could definitely do whatever this “supervisor” does for that amount of money. All in all, I strongly agree with results of this assessment. I believe myself to be extraverted in the way I go out and socialize. This would be helpful in the business world by going out to other companies and getting information for new products, or talking to other employees about how to make certain things better. The sensing part of the assessment that I displayed would most likely be helpful in the business world as there are times when something needs to be done quick without any prior research to help you make a decision. Sensing is the ability to make that quick decision, and then use your extravert skills to rally your employees behind your decision. The thinking that I showed in the assessment is very accurate. Thinking is astronomically helpful in the business world. For example, if my business is in decline, I need to be able to think and analyze the best solution possible for a turnaround. In conclusion, all of these traits intertwine with one another to create a successful leader in general. This leadership quality is why I would be a solid pick for any company, as I work well with others, and can analyze or think on a whim if needed. I was born a leader, thus, born for business.
