ART MIAMI CONTINUES STRONG SALES MOMENTUM ON DAY FOUR
Record Number of Sales Propels Fair to Strong Finish
December 4, 2011 (MIAMI, FL) – Art Miami (www.art-miami.com), Miami’s longest running contemporary art
fair and anchor fair to the City of Miami, announced at the close of the fair’s fourth day (Saturday) that
collective sales exceeded the 2010 figures by more than double. Galleries continued to report strong five and
six-figure transactions, as the fair continued to attract more high-profile collectors, museum professionals,
curators, connoisseurs and artists. Distinguished for its quality, depth and diversity, Art Miami presents an
incredible showcase of works from internationally renowned modern and contemporary art from 110
international art galleries.
“Our exhibitors are continuing to report strong sales every day— more than twice than what we saw last year
at this time,” said Nick Korniloff, Director of Art Miami. “We attribute this to our galleries who are exhibiting
superb quality works that are very well priced; collectors are responding and investing accordingly.” Korniloff
continued, “This week we have demonstrated that Art Miami is a true destination for collectors, and we are
anticipating a very strong finish for Sunday.”
Vincent Vallarino, owner of Vincent Vallarino Fine Art stated, “We’re seeing very good people, important
collectors we’ve known from the past, and new collectors that are quite knowledgeable. The attendance on
day four remains very good and the aura of the fair is completely energized.” McCormick Gallery/Vincent
Vallarino Fine Art, has exhibited at Art Miami for several years, and sold a record of eight abstract
expressionist paintings from important artists from the 1950s in the past four days.
On day four, several galleries reported seeing notable collectors, museum curators, and celebrities including:

Silvana Facchini, Consuelo Escrihuela Chumilla, fashion designer Silvia Tcherassi, Balthazar Magazine
publisher Arty Takian, Andrea Dorigo, Milena Cavicchioli, Paolo Alberti and professionals from the Hood
Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, MOCA Miami, Detroit Institute of Arts, Bellevue Arts Museum, Vero
Beach Museum of Art, Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, Spellman College,
Mobile Museum of Art, Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale and more.
Highlights from day four (Saturday) sales included:
 Mark Borghi Fine Art sold a Jean-Michel Basquiat work for approximately $250,000, Alexander
Calder’s painting titled, “Red and Black” for approximately $85,000, and George Condo’s “Swiss Juice”
for approximately $65,000
 Osborne Samuel sold a Henry Moore sculpture for approximately $250,000, a Lynn Chadwick
sculpture for $50,000 and a Tim Flach photo for $7,000
























Modernism Inc. sold a Gottfried Helnwein painting for $85,000, photographs by Michael Dweck and
Lucien Clergue totaling $25,000, a Naomie Kremer painting “R&B” for $16,000, and an Andreas
Nottebohm oil painting on aluminum “KN-1962” for $10,000
Dillon Gallery sold two works by Kumi Yamashita totaling approximately $75,000, and three Masatake
Kouzaki pigment and foil works totaling $6,000
James Barron Fine Art sold James Brooks’ “Langella” (1982) for approximately $75,000 and Sol
Lewitt’s “Folded 1972” for approximately $40,000
Waterhouse & Dodd sold Patrick Hughes’ oil and photographic collage “Sea City” for $60,000
ACA Galleries sold four Anita Huffington sculptures totaling approximately $58,000
Pace Prints sold a Jim Dine suite of three works for $48,000
Mike Weiss Gallery reported for the week, selling six Yigal Ozeri paintings totaling $240,000, 12 Kim
Dorland paintings ranging from $4,000-$15,000, two paintings by KAORUKO totaling $48,000, five
Trudy Benson paintings ranging from $6,000-$14,000, and a painting by Marc Séguin
Sundaram Tagore Gallery sold Merrill Wagner’s “Pasture Flower #1” (2009) for $34,000
Priveekollektie sold a nut wood, steel copper, glass and leather desk deigned by De Intuitiefabriek
titled “Scrinium” for approximately $30,000, and a Hans Kotter chrome LED and color code unique
piece titled “Twin” (2010) for an undisclosed amount
Cernuda Arte sold a René Portocarrero mixed media piece entitled “Ciudad Flotante” for $29,000, an
Antonio Vidal painting entitled “Abstracción” for $15,000, a David Rodríguez oil on canvas painting
“Pausa” for $5,000 and Wilfredo Lam’s brass and chrome-plated metal “L’Oiseau de Feu” for $18,000
Greg Kucera Gallery sold a Darren Waterston painting titled “Last Days” for approximately $28,000
Graham sold a Mary McDonnell oil on aluminum for $28,000 and three John Zinsser works from his
“Devotional Series” totaling $9,000
Catherine Edelman Gallery, reported selling for the week 13 Gregory Scott video installations ranging
from $26,000 - $32,000
Galerie RX sold two Georges Rousse photos titled “Castle of Chambord” (2011) totaling $27,000
David Klein Gallery sold a Kim McCarty watercolor titled “Black Tips” (2010) for $18,000 to a MOMA
trustee
Galerie Renate Bender sold a Robert Sageman oil on canvas for $15,500 entitled “12,886”
Modernbook Gallery Editions, over the course of the week, sold four Brent Townshend pieces
including three multi-panel editions of “Rockefeller Center” totaling $30,000 and a multi-panel work
entitled “Opera Garnier” for $8,000, eight works by Maggie Taylor ranging from $2,400-$4,000, three
Jamie Baldridge works totaling $24,000, and works by Ryan Bush, David Imlay, Raven Erebus and
Brigitte Camochan
Douglas Dawson Gallery sold an “Anthropomorphic Urn” from Tamalameque, Columbia (800-1200
AD) for $13,000 as well as a set of “Deep Water Buoys” recovered from Lake Superior/Lake Michigan
(20th century) made of wood and iron pigment for $11,500
Aldo de Sousa Gallery sold two untitled Raul Mazzoni geometrical works totaling $12,000
Jennifer Kostuik Gallery sold “Shattered Sphere” by Brent Comber for $12,000
Galerie Forsblom sold a Kaarina Kaikkonen sculpture made of men’s coats titled “Some Hope” for
$10,000
Robert Mann Gallery sold two Julie Blackmon pigment prints totaling $9,000
Peter Fetterman Gallery sold a Steve McCurry photograph titled “Sharbat Gula, Afghan Girl”
(Pakistan, 1984) for approximately $8,500 and several Stephen Wilkes digital C prints including
“Central Park” (2010) for $6,500 and “Times Square” (2010) for $3,500.
Lisa Sette Gallery sold two acrylic and India ink on de-acidified 19th Century paper titled “Ghostly
Meditations (the invisible essence of things)” (2011) and “Ghostly Meditations (distills into
something dense and unknown)” totaling $8,400. The gallery also sold three oil on panel pieces titled
“The Battle” (2009) for $2,800, “Traveling Grower” (2011) for $1,200 and “Flood” (2011) for $1,200

Pan American Art Projects sold a mixed media piece by Jose Manuel Fors titled “Fragmentos” for
$7,000, two William Cannings works “Glow Tube” for $3,000 and “Rip and Sag” for $7,500 made from
inflated steel and paint
