Dear Walker, Thank you for taking the first step in the fight against lung disease—committing to participate in the American Lung Association’s 2010 Sandusky Lung Walk. This year’s Lung Walk is Sunday, May 16th at Kalahari Waterpark and Resort, and we are excited that working with you will ensure that this year’s debut Lung Walk is a success! We challenge you to join in this fight and get your friends, family members and co-workers to join your team and raise money to fight lung disease. With over 35 million Americans affected by lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer and COPD, our community must come together to raise money to help fund research and educational programs. This year, walkers will again unite and walk to achieve our goal of $40,000 here in Sandusky. With your help, we will be successful! The success of the Walk greatly depends on walkers like you. If you have not done so already, please register today! Registration is easy. Go to our website at www.midlandlung.org/walk and click on Sandusky. You can set up your personal fundraising page by using our templates or design your own page. You can email friends and track your progress all from this site. If you are not part of an existing team, consider starting your own team of family and friends. Don’t forget to set your fundraising goal, and aim high! We encourage each Walker to set a personal goal of $200. Remember every Walker that raises $100 or more will receive the official Lung Walk Tshirt, in addition you can earn and win special prizes. Most of all remember the Lung Walk is a FUN way to fight lung disease. If you have any questions or need additional materials please contact Leigh Ann Casarona at (216) 5328202 or lacasarona@ohiolung.org. Thank you for your interest in joining the American Lung Association, as we continue our fight against lung disease. Warm regards, Leigh Ann Casarona Development Director American Lung Association SANDUSKY FACT SHEET Date: Location: Registration: Walk Begins: Goal: Sunday, May 16, 2010 Kalahari Waterpark and Resort 9am 10am $40,000 raised The Lung Walk is a non-competitive walking event that benefits the American Lung Association® in the fight against lung disease – AMERICA’S #3 KILLER! Where Do The Proceeds Go? The American Lung Association® uses the proceeds from the 2010 Lung Walk to help fund asthma and lung disease programs and services provided in the Sandusky area. How Will The Funds Be Raised? Funds are raised in 2 basic ways… 1. Event sponsorship donations will be solicited from companies. Generally, cash sponsorship donations in amounts ranging from $250 to $10,000 made by local companies account for 10% to 30% of the total raised from the Walk. 2. Donations collected by walkers participating in the Walk. Generally, these types of donations account for 70% to 90% of the total amount raised from the Walk. How Are Walkers Recruited For The Event? Almost all of the walkers will participate as members of a family or business – based team. These teams are organized by “Team Captains”. The typical walker is a family member, close friend, or co-worker of the team captain. The team captains are generally individuals who are directly affected by lung disease in some way. What Support Will The American Lung Association® Provide To Team Captains? The American Lung Association® will provide every Team Captain with all the materials, training, encouragement, and support that they will need to be successful in their team building and fundraising efforts. For more information, contact Leigh Ann Casarona at (216) 532-8202 or lacasarona@ohiolung.org. SANDUSKY WALK FAQ’S Q. A. When and where will the walk talk place? This year’s walk will be Sunday, May 16th at Kalahari Waterpark and Resort. Registration begins at 9am and the walk will take place at 10am. Q. A. How much money am I expected to raise? There is no minimum amount required in order to participate, but the more you raise the more the American Lung Association can use in their fight against lung disease. Don’t forget, if you raise at least $100 you will receive a t-shirt. Q. A. How can I utilize the Internet in my fundraising? By going to www.midlandlung.org/walk and following the links to the Sandusky site you can create an on-line fundraising page that you can share with your friends. People can make donations right from their computer. Q. A. How many walkers does it take to make a team? Teams can be any shape or size, but the more members the merrier, and the more funds your team can collectively raise in order to qualify for some great prizes and incentives. Team members can be co-workers, family members, friends, neighbors, club members, or anyone who wants to come out to have fun and support a great cause. Q. A. How should money be collected and turned in? Each walker is responsible for collecting his or her own donations. A convenient way to handle this is to collect all donations using the Lung Walk website. Donations collected online are automatically counted towards your fundraising goal. You can also put your donations in the collection envelope and record each donation in the space provided on the collection envelope. Bring your envelope with you to turn in at the Lung Walk, or you can mail it to the ALA office ahead of time. Q. A. If I mail my donations, do I still qualify for the incentive prizes? Although it is suggested that all donations are turned in on or before walk day, any donations turned in before the incentive deadline (a few weeks after the walk) will count toward your incentive prizes. Q. A. What will the money I raise be used for? The money raised through the Lung Walk will help support the American Lung Association’s lung disease education, advocacy and research efforts. Q. Who should I contact if I have more questions or need more materials? A. Call the American Lung Association at 216-532-8202 or 1-800-LUNG-USA STEPS FOR FUNDRAISING SUCCESS While raising money for a great cause can seem like a challenge, it’s easier than you think.
