BIBLE STUDY: SIN – SEXUAL
My dear friends please take the time to study the following scriptures and principles,
and to spend time in prayer for complete victory. I understand that you may not be
struggling in this area at present, but to be forewarned is to be fore-armed. The
information and guidance below will prepare you for this arena of battle, and enable
you to help people you know, who may be struggling with purity right now.
May God richly bless you, empower your, enable you, and equip you for the victory.

Instructions On How To Treat People
- Older men: = treat as fathers
- Younger men: = treat as brothers
- Older women: = treat as mothers
- Younger women: = treat as sisters with all purity
o PURITY; chastity – attitude & conduct avoids all sexual sin
o *Rule of Thumb: have no sexual activity with anyone you are not married to,
that you could not have with your biological brother, sister or parent!
Types Of Sexual Sin
- Fornication; 1 Cor 6:18 “… flee fornication …”
o FORNICATION is defined as follows …
o Thayer’s Greek Definitions; illicit sexual intercourse
 1a) adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with
animals etc.



1b) sexual intercourse with close relatives; Lev. 18
1c) sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman;

o Complete Word Study Dictionary; to commit fornication or any sexual sin.
 Fornication, lewdness, or any sexual sin
o Strong’s Concordance; harlotry (including adultery and incest);
 Figuratively idolatry: - fornication
o *Rule of Thumb: Fornication can be correctly summarised as any sexual
activity outside of a consenting husband & wife, or gaining sexual satisfaction
or pleasure outside of a consenting sexual union with your spouse. This would
also include: viewing pornography, masturbation, sexual fantasies about
others

Results Of Sexual Sin

Where Does Sexual Sin Come From?
- Your flesh – fallen human nature; Gal 5:19*, Rom 13:13-14
What Is God’s Requirement?
- Purity
o Believers must be holy; 1 Thes 4:3-5*
o Hearts must be changed thru Holy Spirit; 1 Cor 6:9-11
CLOSE

- You must: MAINTAIN PURITY – AVOID SEXUAL SIN
o Many struggle with purity – but God is our help in times of trouble
o Promote External Purity
 Avoid ungodly women (and men); Prov 7:24-26
 Cut off all lustful influences; Mat 5:28-30
 Remove things that bring sexual temptation to you
 If you have a problem with internet pornography then you
must disconnect internet access at home and via your mobile
phone
 Ensure that you have an internet filter such as Cybersitter
 Destroy sexually explicit or suggestive books, pictures,
magazines, DVDs, videos, music, texts, letters, etc
 Destroy all provocative clothing & ensure that you do not make
yourself an object of lust for others in the way that you dress
 Destroy souvenirs from immoral past relationships
o Pursue Internal Purity … The Root Of The Problem!
 Pray for a clean heart; Psalm 51:10
 Fill yourself with God’s word; Psalm 119:11
 Cleanse yourself with God’s word; Psalm 119:9
 Pray for help to overcome sexual temptation at the time you are
actually being tempted! 1 Cor 10:13
 Fast & pray to mortify (kill) the deeds & desires of your flesh; Rom
8:13-14
 Do not look at others lustfully; Job 31:1, Mat 5:27-28
 Seek guidance, counsel and prayer from your Pastor

Make yourself accountable to your Pastor in this area
Do your own bible study on worship of God – and begin to worship God
above your own body & personal sexual gratification
DEALING WITH AN IMMORAL RELATIONSHIP
If you are currently in an immoral relationship, committing sexual sin by having a
sexual relationship with someone that you are not married to, there is drastic action
that you must take:
o Recognise that the relationship is unrighteous, God does not approve of sexual
sin
o God will judge those that wilfully practise sexual sin; Heb 13:4
o Recognise that this has destroyed your salvation – if you died right now you
would not go to heaven; 1 Cor 6:9
o Recognise that the relationship is based on lust – not love
 Love waits – Lust cannot wait; 1 Cor 13:4
 Love seeks other person’s benefit – Lust seeks personal gratification;
1 Cor 13:5
 Love does not rejoice in sin & disobedience – Lust commits sin in
order to satisfy personal desires; 1 Cor 13:6
o You must end the relationship immediately & completely; 1 Cor 6:18
o Repent of this sin & ask God for cleansing; 1 John 1:9
o Recognise & remove the factors that led to sexual immorality
 Lack of accountability
 Inappropriate time alone with person of opposite sex
 Lack of boundaries on physical contact – must avoid all sexual contact
(small things led to full sex over time)
o Conduct relationship in all purity
o Do not get married in order to make your sexual relationship legitimate – you
will simply be bringing lust and sexual sin into the marriage
o Seek wise counsel, pray, and help from your Pastor
Hope: YOU CAN HAVE RIGHTEOUS RELATIONSHIPS
o Maintain proper attitudes & boundaries
o Treat older men as fathers
o Treat younger men as brothers
o Treat older women as mothers
o Treat younger women as sisters with all purity
Save yourself for your spouse & enjoy sex God’s way – Prov 5:15-20
