Advanced Placement Spanish Language and Culture Course
Parkland High School- AP Spanish 5
La Señora O’Donnell
Las expectativas de la clase de español:
1. Students are expected to use the Spanish language for all communication. This will be observed
for the participation grade!
2. Students are expected to come to class prepared to participate in classroom activities, dialogues,
discussions, etc. This is a class in which oral response is a necessity.
3. Homework is an important facet to language learning. Although some nights you will only have a
“study” assignment, please treat it with as much importance as a written assignment. Completing
assigned work is essential to your success in this course. In addition, with each missed
assignment there is a deduction from your Homework/Participation grade.
4. All assignments are expected on their given due dates. YOU are responsible for any work missed
due to an absence. Please see me apart from instructional time in regards to the work you missed.
If you are absent on a test date, expect to take the test within 3 school days. Refer to your student
handbook for policies.
5. All students are expected to bring their covered textbook, workbook, notebook, writing utensil,
and all other pertinent materials to class EVERYDAY. Failure to do so will result in a loss of
percentage points. Being prepared is of utmost importance. Locker/Lavatory visits are at my
discretion.
6. You are required to keep a notebook with this page being the first page in it. Although any type
of notebook will suffice, it must be well organized to accommodate notes, worksheets, textbook
exercises, and class assignments.
7. All extra credit opportunities are already incorporated throughout the course and various
assessments. Therefore, there are no other extra credit opportunities available at the end of each
marking period. If you are working hard on each assignment there will not be a need for
additional credit!
8. A Spanish dictionary is a helpful tool and reference for this course. The purchase of this item is
recommended. There are also many free Applications for Ipods, phones, etc.

1. The textbook for AP Spanish is Encuentros Maravillosos. This book
must be covered at all times. The AP exercise workbook will be used in
addition to the textbook along with other supplemental materials.
2. All lessons in the book will consist of new vocabulary and grammar. All
facets-reading, writing, speaking, and listening, will be incorporated into
every lesson.
3. Each lesson expands upon information learned in previous lessons.
Therefore, all material should be reviewed from time to time. In language
learning you should be constantly adding to that good foundation you
established in the beginning levels.
4. As a rule, attempts to speak Spanish are more beneficial to your grade and
development than relying on English or silence! Remember, the more
you use Spanish the more natural it will become.
5. No student should be afraid to speak Spanish. The key to achieving
fluency is to practice. Mistakes in oral communication are not my
primary concern. Your participation is! Volunteer!
